I think the Brazilian team psyched themselves out before even starting the game with the way they dealt with Neymar's injury. They should have focused on the other talented players they have, rather than getting 'get well soon Neymar' written on their caps.

The German machine worked unselfishly as a team, and without too much diving around the park either which was refreshing. The Ref did a great job in not blowing his whistle too much, he's almost my player of the game.

On paper the touch me and I'll dive Dutch is the more complete team but I shant say any more or else people will complain about my whinging :(

Let's hope the winner wins fair and square.

Also hope to see cynical defending (which made forwards resort to diving in the first place) punished.

After yesterday's stunner, today's felt like a bit of a damp squib. Both teams were playing to not lose, rather than for the win. It's always a shame when it goes to the crapshoot of a penalty shootout.
Once again excellent refereeing with not too much simulation from the players.

Apparently a van rapist and sniejder refused to take the first penalty, so Vlaar said he would. Ended up costing them the WC.

Just watch it on TVNZ. Works fine in Chrome.

I thought that might be who you meant, just wanted to make sure because he could never have been nominated to take the first penalty.  He was subbed off well before the final whistle.

As it happens I'm a Feyenoord fan, where van Persie cut this teeth before the big money lured him to the UK.

What cost them the world cup was playing extra time in two consecutive matches exposing the lack of depth and fitness. You could go all the way back to calling unprintable names of English players costing them the world cup but in the end the ball is round.

And van persie was subbed off during the game. Doesn't that make him ineligible for the shootout?

Edit: Ooops sorry didn't see this point was made 2 posts above.

Hmm not so much although it may have had a minor influence.

Critical points of failure due to:
- Argentina playing all-round defensive with 10 players near the goal zone most of time (not unsimilar to Spain / Costa Rica) (what some people call "anti-football")
- Not changing GK to Krul before shoot-out
- Letting Vlaar take the first shot

In the end, shame we didn't make it although we were so evenly matched we could have gone through had the odds been slightly different so we can leave the pitch with our chins up.
Would be nice if we could still take the 3rd place on Saturday.

RVP was a spent force and dead weight by 80 mins. hence they used up the last sub for that. well if they didn't play an injured de Jong they wouldn't have had to use a sub for him. and they didn't really need to sub Messi's man marker for having a yellow card though who knows, that could have prevented Messi from taking him on knowing he's on a red. so if that's not depth i don't know.

Yes, argentina played 10 behind the ball in set pieces and 6 behind the ball at other times, but they didn't man mark, Robben was allowed thru balls all the time, no one followed him. very different from antifootball. what was lacking was that RVP was always offside! or he didn't manage to get to the ball, coz he was ... umm tired

by the way, LVG (pronounced van Haa?L?) has indicated he isn't aiming for a win at the 3rd-4th play off. he said they're going to lose. yes, that's what he said.

LOL (off topic) I have yet to hear a native Enlgish speaker pronounce a G like it should be in Dutch.  There is some variation between provinces, but it is definitely not a 'huh' sound.  I suppose tit's is as close as an English equivalent as it gets but really you need to try and find a nice gutteral, throat-clearing , phlegmy, 'ggrrr' sound.

Try and say Loch Ness.
The 'G' in Gaal is similar to the 'ch' in Loch

(That is, when spoken with an authentic British/Scottish tongue)
