Sitting here in Christchurch with no power, seems to be affecting a large area that I can see from looking from my garage roof.

Anyway, since I have a ups, my wifi keeps going!

Here are some screenshots of my internet:

Normally I get 11Mbps. Attainable rate is usually 18,000 - now look at it!

If you dont powercucle it, on adsl you will hang in there with a 2dB noise margin and outperform your VDSL connection if my experiences are anything to go by.

I think he means if you do not powercycle the modem once the power is restored, you may stay sync'd at the higher rates

Looks like only about 1/3 of house had power restored 9000 out of 30,000 so far

Once power is back on, do not reset the router so you keep your sync speed obtained during the powercut, as the noisy neighbours come onlien your noise margin will drop. But as it starts at an absurdly high 12dB you have heaps of room to let it drop and keep working fine. when I had adsl I did it and went from around 14 to 20 meg downstream. Kept it for a couple of months till the chorus tech disconnected me when faultfinding the flatmates connection.

Would it be in my interest to lower the SNR to say 9dB? Would that make it go even faster? Or is that just automatic?

Anyone know if the power is back on?  Am in the USA at the moment and wondering how long before the food in the freezer is at risk - imagine with it being winter it might be quite a while.
