Am working in Te Aroha today, and the radio keeps talking about pies, anyone know a good pie in Te Aroha?

I think this needs to be a more generic thread. Good pies:

* Bakery in Orewa near Hillary Square
* The bakery next to the service station on the old Albany Highway turn-off towards Dairy Flat

Not far from Te Aroha to Paeroa - couple of good bakeries there (probably are in Te Aroha too). Also a Maccas in Paeroa - get a Georgie Pie. :)

If we're talking pies that don't cost the equivalent of the national deficit of a small African country, then I'm a fan of BP's Wild Bean Cafe pies when they're fresh. They're not oily, don't flake all over my car and are delicious.

At BP of course.  Doesn't BP stand for Best Pies after all?

Sounds fancy and high faluting, but Richoux Patisserie in Ellerslie rocks. Heaps of awards for their pies and they are well priced. Not had a bad one from them yet.

Hence the Smilie.

I do quite enjoy the 'gourmet' pies from Wild Bean. Z stations have OK Pies too.

If you are in the Hawkes Bay, you are pretty spoiled IMO - Jacksons in Havelock North do a Good Pie, as do BJs in Hastings and Heavens in Napier.

If your in Te Awamutu, check out http://www.kiwipies.net.nz/

A
side from a couple of particular restaurant dishes , it's one of the things I miss most about not living in the Waikato any more.

And if anyone's wondering about the restaurant dishes I miss, Furious Chicken from Lemongrass in TA and #66 Devil Rice from TukTuk in Hamilton. If you like hot, and are anywhere nearby, check them out.

'Furious Chicken' sounds like something you'd expect to see on Adult Swim spoofing The Matrix. Sadly, a GIS does not agree with me.

Sim's Bakery on SH1 in Tinwald (Ashburton) has great pies - especially the Chicken Satay. They use a more dense pastry that isn't flakey or sweet.

That's a fantastic idea! It could automatically alert you when approaching a pie place.
