You'd think that when you die you'd give your estate to your children.

But this guy found that his mother's estate went to the animals.

*sigh

I think your topic title is apt.
We can't tell from the article what he has, or hasn't, done to deserve it.

Did you even read the article?

  • The guy's mother in her 70's met another and married another 70+ guy after knowing him for 2 years.
  • Mum dies 11 months after marriage.
  • "Dad" dies 4 years later and the "son" isn't even aware of it.
  • "Son" finds out about the "Dad" dying due to Xmas card being returned.
  • "Son" finds out estate went to RSPCA and decides to contest it.

All in all I'd say it worked out for the best.

I don't see why it's even news worthy.

Sounds like this rumour in my suburb.
On the most expensive street on the cliff top in between Takapuna and Devonport there are some plots of bare land with plaques on it saying along the lines of: Donated to public from "Persons name"
Probably they hated their family and left the 7 figure value land to the good people!

The article isn't completely clear, but it appears that the son had rights to the mother's furniture etc ("Palmer is the executor and beneficiary of his mother's estate") and loaned them to the "dad" ("after his mother's death he had told Burton he could continue to use her furniture and household chattels such as pottery for the rest of his life") ... yet these were still sold off rather than given back.

The house and car are more of a grey area.
