We had beer, books, movies, TV, coffee threads. Why not this then?

I bought a bottle of Johnnie Walker XR (aged 21 years) in Sydney yesterday. Very smooth, although quite heavy:

Usually drink Glenlivet or Talisker when out and about but this one is really nice.

When I drank alcohol ( haven't done so for years) the only Whiskey I could drink was Jack Daniels.

No but you're a regular at the Whisky lounge tongue-out

On a serious note, I was given a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue a friend picked up duty free as payment for some work I did for them. A VERY nice drop!

Would this be the Lloyd Thomas memorial thread? :-)

I picked up Aberfeldy 12 year and Auchentoshan Heartwood on my way back.

I'm enjoying the Heartwood, it's aged in bourbon and Oloroso sherry barrels.  A bit like Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, but a bit more of a fruit cake quality.

BTW I have wee bit of Ardbeg left if you've never had it.  It's pretty intense.

Bourbon and Corn Whiskey follow the Irish spelling.

While Bourbon is considered to be part of the Whiskey family, in my books, Bourbon isn't a real Whiskey. ;-) It doesn't taste right to be a whiskey.

Real whiskey is Jamesons Irish whiskey.

Bourbon has corn as a predominant ingredient whereas Irish Whiskey and Scotch Whisky use malted barley with the method of drying the barley being the major difference between the two. Bourbon has a very different taste to Scotch whisky or Irish whiskey.

Bourbon is usually distilled once, Scotch distilled twice and Irish triple distilled.

Most Scotch's are blended malts, i.e. Whisky from different stills whereas most Irish whiskey is a single malt.

Whiskey was first distilled in Ireland about 1000 AD, this predates when Whisky was distilled in Scotland.

Here is some of my Whisky collection. I got the JW XR in 2012. Still have not opened it yet. My absolute favourite IMO most under rated Whisky in the world in Johnnie Walker Black Label. I love my Whisky's and only drink them straight. The Bunnahabhain is 31 hears old. Its rubbish.

I don't drink much at all but I do have a selection of single malt Scotch on hand which I dip into from time to time (some are from my wedding 10 years ago, so I REALLY don't drink much!)

Available to visitors of taste are:

Lagavullin 16 yo
Laphroig Quarter Cask
Glenlivet 18 yo
Balvenie Founders
Bruichladdich 12 yo
Glenfiddich 18 yo
Ardbeg 10 yo
Tamnavulin 12
Dalmore 12
Caol Isla 16 yo

My personal favourites are the peaty Islay malts and the Quarter Cask in particular is an excellent dram when the rain is lashing the windows!

does the age continue counting when it's sitting in the bottle in your cupboard? if so you'll have a few powerful 25yo in very little time :)

You can't beat a single malt.

I enjoy a smoky whisky.

Talisker is my favourite at the moment (10 year old or the distiller's edition).

Have had a bottle of 18 year old Glenlivet before. That was very tasty
