I suppose, depending on what side of the fence you wish to sit on, the proof is whatever you think....

Its well worded spin. For most people that SC press release will be enough to reassure them.
After all "interception" requires people parked up in unmarked vans full of electronics, and people with clip leads and wirecutters. For it to be a true conspiracy it must be this way. Unless of course the hardware is made in China, because only they are clever enough to do indulge in this sort of thing.

So what earth shattering revelations has KDC made tonight? So far seems to be a lot of hype and hot air, and a big fizzer.

All this talk of Greenwald and co being apolitical is bullsh*t if you ask me.  Participating in an event such as this in co-operation with KDC, Msss Harre, etc a few days before the election is totally political, especially when KDC has vowed to take down John Key.

I've heard of a few people saying they're sick of people likes Greenwald, Snowden, Assange, assisted by KDC interfering in New Zealand politics that they are going to vote National this year to ensure KDC doesn't get his way.  Tonight's circus will have the opposite effect to what was originally intended.

In the begining I had a bit of sympathy for KDC, not any more. The sooner he leaves these shores the better.

yes you are right (or left :) ) however it seems to be more just accusations and not very reliable or unknown in the first place.

I understand the concern that a lot of the GZ community has over all the privacy issues but I'm one of the majority that is quite trusting in most things ( naive I know) and I suppose we rely on people such on here to keep others in  line but this really has just been one mans focus to discredit the NZ government for his own benefit and thus far it is backfiring on him.

You (and others) may have noticed I never mentioned this person before. In reality there are only two keywords filter in my Twitter filter: "gigatown" and this gentleman's name. I do not support his principles, methods or objectives. But I do worry about privacy.

However even my worries about out of control surveillance with no legal reason, it's not a draw card that would change my vote to a party created to entertain certain personal crusade.

sbiddle: Why intercept SXC under water or even at a ground station? Intercepting it inside the US once traffic leaves the ground station is far easier.

I remember talking to a man at a GZ pizza night a few years ago who was in a particular position to have pertinent information on the topic. He described having a lot of meetings in the US that were attended by representatives of the local telcos etc. as well as bunch of people in suits who never gave their names but noted there were certain conditions attached to landing a cable on the US mainland vis a vis installation of tapping equipment at the landing station.
