And add an IQ test to your list of requirements for a permit - minimum score 100.

Thats a bit harsh, I have met couples with kids who couldn't get over that mark by combining their IQ's.

Why harsh? We hardly want the stupid to be passing on their genes.

But if that were the case, who would stand for local body elections or Parliament?

Asta: This government will never pay off the national debt. Their creditors wouldn't like it.

It will never get paid off because everyone will say: There are waiting lists for operations - more health spending. Class sizes are too big - more education spending. There is too much traffic congestion - more roads. The govt is running a surplus, they can afford it. In otherwords it is very hard for a govt to make debt repayment first priority when times are good.

to whom (What?) do we owe money?

Why stop here? We may as well check for gene defects and get rid of all the mentally disabled and handicapped people. They are just a burden to our public  health system and cost the hardworking tax payer. We could could also get rid of gays as they cant mate successfully and are just a waste of our resources. And we may as well dont allow muslims to have kids as they dont fit in our christian society.

To speed up the process to a elite society we can put all above citizen in re-education camps and the ones who resist we migth as well use their human energy and turn them into electricity in modern bio-power plants.

</sarcasm>

You statement is disgusting and is a good example on how fascist regimes become successful. I urge you to go travel and educate yourself about what humans are willing to do for their idiology. Please visit one of the existing concentration camps and see for yourself.

Yeah, the above is pretty much advocating Eugenics.

(Edited just in case I said a bad thing.)

heylinb4nz:

Imagine what could be achieved if all companies in the world that made > $100 million net profit had to give anything above that level of wealth back to the bottom half of society, the flow on effects for all society would be astounding.

The flow-on effects certainly would be astounding. No business of scale could be justified, no businesses would bother getting big enough to make big investments (refineries, chip fab lines, car plants) as they wouldn't be able to make a sufficient rate of return to raise the money. Investment would stall and wouldn't occur at all in important industries, companies wouldn't grow or hire people, the global economy would tank, unemployment would soar, and petrol and computers etc would become unobtainable.

Oh, and I wouldn't bank on much of a retirement. All those companies that your Kiwisaver etc is invested in wouldn't exactly be making very much from their investments.

Has this now become the romper-room economics thread?

Is that a criminal offence, or just a Thought Crime?

If you read (for example) the Wikipedia entry on eugenics, you will see that the term covers a huge variety of commonly practiced things including emergency contraception and fertility treatment and that many well known scientists (including Richard Dawkins) have argued in favour of it.

To tar an entire field of thought based on the misuse of it by two sets of historical regimes seems a bit much.

Been there - no need to urge me to travel. I have probably visited more countries than 80% of the people in NZ at least. I grew up in Europe for starters and had been to most of that by the time I was 15. I've been in 11 countries in the last 18 months.

Facist regimes do not become successful because of my statements, they become successful for other reasons - I do not think any facist regimes have ever read any of my statements....

This kind of idea gets mentioned in multiple topics. It is not really related to this topic either. Also it is something that some people have a strong reaction to and tends to drag any particular topic off topic and tends to attract godwins.

Either one is not really a good contribution to the discussion.

At this point the only thing worse than seeing posts about this - is seeing the replies ; ).
