Weirdo types like him usually think they are cleverer than everyone else.  However, they usually lack empathy and self awareness, so this belief is hubris/delusion.

DravidDavid: Apparently he did "significant research" in order to come to Brazil as his best option.  Why didn't he pick Mexico or something, haha.  That's what they do in the movies!

21brandon21: They need to introduce the death penalty and harsher crimes for these cockroaches. We need to implement the Thai System for prisons. Prisons should be a hellhole not a holiday in. They get better treatment than people in rest homes.

P.S. If you get caught stealing you should get your hand chopped off imo. (3 chances to be fair)

LOL, man oh man.

Do you think the people who commit these crimes give a toss about the consequences? It's the same with the whole antismacking debacle. The people who beat their kids within an inch of their lives aren't thinking of the consequences, so therefore the law which was originally intended to stop those people has little or no affect.

Hence a .223 round is the cheapest option to dispose of the criminally deviant.

Exactly.  You can't legislate the people in to submission.  Education and proper help when required is a far more effective way to handle things.

He could still be cleverer than everyone else despite not being empathetic or self-aware. For example, HFA people such as those with Aspergers can be extremely clever but often lack self awareness or empathy.

Stress: I can't help but laugh that he's going to spend a year or more in a Brazilian prison. Those places are NASTY! If he does make it out alive maybe we should drop him in the middle of a favela? He wouldn't make it to the exit alive. Oh karma, you rock!

Have to agree. First thing I thought when i heard he was being "dealt with" by Brazilian authorities is that I really hope he gets dealt with by some Brazilian convicts.

Where are you reading he might be there for a year or more?

If he has to be removed by extradition then I'll be a year or more, if its deportation it'll be only days. At the point I wrote my last post they hadn't reported catching him and there was an article on stuff pointing out the options of trying to get him home.

Looks like he's going to be deported so he's only going to spend days in there instead. Still I bet he feels clever!

Debacle? The law's had great effect in bringing to a end cases where people would beat their kids with riding crops, plead it to be reasonable in the circumstances to a jury of morons, then get off scot-free. No more, thankfully.

Only rich kids can afford to be hit with riding crops.

Has it? Who has been convicted under the new law that would have got off scott free before? I haven't seen anything reported. Genuinely curious.

That you haven't seen anything reported does lend itself to the likelihood that the law in working as intended. Pre law, adults had a defence that violence inflicted on children was reasonable in the circumstances. Adults did hit kids with riding crops, and juries did let them off (I remember a specific case). Quite simply, under the new law they would have no defence. End of.

Since the new law was passed, interest groups (often fundamentalist religious orientated) have raised examples of 'good parents' being treated badly under the new law. When I have bothered to look at some of these, I've tended to think the law is working well and the adults were right to be charged. But I guess that depends on where you sit on whether hitting kids is good or bad in the first place.

My mother whooped me with hers once or twice. Didn't do me any lasting damage.
