So Good News first
EZTV is recovering Yay!

While there is still no sign of The Pirate Bay, another major torrent site is starting to recover following the police raid earlier this week. The popular TV-torrent distribution group EZTV is starting to upload new shows again as some of its servers come back online.

Bad news

The MPAA is in discussions with the major movie studios over ways to introduce site blocking to the United States.

The thing My mate .....George! finds interesting is that he downloads less and less from Torrent sites

what with Netflix and all the others the need just isn't there or maybe hes just getting old and needs less?

Regardless of EZTV or TPB being up or down, there are plenty of reliable sources (not to mention these are uploaded to reasonably slow)

As for site blocking in the US, im not surprised really.. Although ill leave my comments out of it until i have a chat to US friends and see their views and such...

We barely watch TV anymore.

My nephew is staying with us. After a couple of months, he asked if we have a TV. We do...but it looks like a PC, and in any case we had not turned it on since he arrived two months prior.

Most of our "TV" watching is streamed content on a PC or laptop....and even that is limited to once or twice a month.

TV News? Never watch it. Waste of time.

It's the same with me. I use Netflix and similar services for video (or buy the Blu-ray if it's a decent movie) and I tend to use iTunes for music. The only torrent site that I still actively use is dedicated to content that isn't available by official means (out-of-print movies, TV shows that never had a DVD release, etc) ... and even then I don't get much from there!

We havent had "TV" in over a year now, just relied on TVNZ onDemand, Netflix and torrents for shows that just were not going to be shown here.

Regardless what govt's do, there will always be a way around it, or an alternative.

Could see a rise in BBS's online again ;)

Linuxluver: ... TV News? Never watch it. Waste of time.

+1  Agree.
Minimal real news content.
A "news show" - a cross between reality TV and an infomercial.
What little "real" news there is tends to be "old news" by the time it is broadcast.

We're similar (in our 50s - so it may not be just an age / habit thing, also have a 21YO living at home)
We need a dish because out of range of terrestrial.  I had to take the dish down because it was in the way of scaffold,  That was up for 3 months, no sense of grief or mourning in the household.  I stuck it back up after the scaffold came down, but then needed to paint that wall, so took it off a couple of weeks ago - wall has been painted.  It's sitting on the ground - nobody seems to have noticed that the TV isn't working. Might climb up a ladder and stick it back on the wall for the repeat of "The Sound of Music" on Xmas Eve - or the Queens Xmas message perhaps...  Nah - I'm going on holiday - so it can wait.
