Downloaded and watched the first episode. Considering most episodes are 1hr (and a few minutes) without ad breaks, I wonder how long the episode will be with ads - 1hr 15, 1hr 20, 1h 30?

Top Gear..........the best thing to come out of UK TV (PLEASE do not put up endless comments about why it is crap I love the show.)

http://www.tv3.co.nz/Shows/TopGear.aspx

It is a shame that NZ does not show it live with the rest of the civilized world, but quite a few people have pointed out there is more than one way to skin a cat and watch the show either live or at your convenience.

I loved the show and looking forward to next weeks showcool

Stan: Considering they have not shown the Patagonia Special that aired end of last year they are around a month and a half behind.

I watched the second part last night.  Great program, but it got very hairy at the end.  What was interesting is that it showed the crew making a run for it.  I've always imagined there was a single 4x4 with about four crew members following the presenters on their Specials, but it was four or five  4x4s and a mid sized truck!

They managed to get through a mid sized town but with a lot of damage to the vehicles, and were told there was a mob of 300 vehicles waiting for them at the final town, so they detoured back into Chile retracing part of the route the TG guys had taken.  This screen grab shows some of the vehicles crossing the river that puts them back in Chile.  They had abandoned the program vehicles at this stage (Porsche, Lotus and Mustang)

Thanks for the spoiler alert there tld  undecided

Of note for me is how they have tried to combat the download stuff, but simultaneously broadcasting around the world at the same time.  (except for in New Zealand that is...)
I notice the torrent file had been removed also, which was a change in tact for them, so they look to be going on the attack on that front.
They light-heartedly made reference to downloading in the evening with top gear episode also.

Anyhow, all still amusing if you take it as a travel / motoring / comedy style TV show.

Genuinely looking forward to the day the present distribution process goes the way of CD's.

and what way is that ?

last year the moozik industry still managed to shift nearly 141m of the little silver discs in the us alone.

compare that to the paltry 9m units of the "vinyl revival".

oh yes, has anyone mentioned tv3 news is going hd too ?

That was the question I asked yesterday.  Will MediaWorks cut these down to a commercial hour as Prime used to do about 5 years ago..

Sorry about that.  I was thinking it was all over the news about them being chased out of Argentina, and this was not part of the program proper, which was excellent as ever.

The whole impromptu, work it out on the fly, action as it happens thing has been spoiled for me several times now.

One was Top Gear with JC on a Kawasaki Quadski racing RH in an Alpha 4C around Lake Como in Italy. No chance you think, until JC drives the quad into the lake, and takes an as-the-crow-flies direct route to the finish point.  The Quadski does 70kph on smooth water, so JC wins, but then he spoils it by saying that 'A fat American was admiring the Quadski where it was moored up at the finish point, and knocked the camera into the water.

So they had to do it all over again the next day.  WTF!  Nothing planned and prearranged there then.  Was the outcome also decided before the event?

The other spoiler for me was seeing a program about the making of the Bear Grylls adventure journeys where he is dropped of in the back of beyond with nothing but a huge hunting knife, and has to get back to civilization.  I'd previously cringed watching him apparently unprotected on slippery rock faces with certain death if he came off, but the 'make of' program showed a crew of 18 support people including a doctor, and showed him clearly roped up on one of these daring descents.  So they obviously remove the ropes etc. with the likes of After Effects before the program is aired.  Perhaps I was being naive, but that ruined the program for me after that.

******SPOILER ALERT OFF***********

Nice for those that still watch it, I gave up after season 20 as it became to predictable. One episode of junkers doing a challenge, one of a international challenge, one episode which actually has a semi decent review of a good car.

The rest is bickering rubbish that used to be funny but its become old. The same jokes of driving into each other or stealing bits off each others cars have 10+ seasons old now!

The only new things on the show are the cars which they given conflicting reviews on.

You know what direction it's heading in, with digital downloads essentially equalling CD sales in 2014 and with streaming starting to impact on digital downloads also.

If nothing else I'd appreciate the option to buy direction from the source now that internet infrastructure has improved so much.

richms: 6pm news is for old people who dont like to think and need to be directed as to what to think and opinions to have. It exists to keep them watching so the customers are happy. I cant see how anyone can get any sense of being "informed" by the 6pm news from what I have seen of it. All the back and forth BS and chit chat and cuddlywuddly crap. Prime news was much better when I watched it, but lets see how mediaworks manage to ruin that one.

You are not wrong there.  The evil buggers never tell the truth about the black helicopters, or what everyone knows really exists at Area 51.  They refuse to come clean about who shot JFK and caused Lady Di to die.  I also happen to know for a certain fact that the shape of the clouds in the weather segment passes on secret messages to undercover agents who have infiltrated the Green Party, Green Peace, that lot that burst the balloon at The Spy Base, and all those who live in tents in the middle of big cities.  Heck.  Why has no one noticed that Tim Shadbolt never misses the Six o'clock forecast....  I mean why would he even need to?  It's Inver-blooming-cargill.  The weather will be sh!te. End of

Shows simultaneously in Oz on Foxtel BBC Knowledge channel 612.
At 6.30am on a monday morning here in Adelaide . (7am AEDT)
Normally at work then so have to record and wait until after the Mrs watches neighbours  :(
Same as we did when I used to torrent it.
I'm lucky last monday was Australia Day so I could watch it live. It runs 74 minutes here with ads.

So even if they showed it "live" in NZ, it'd still be on at 9am when most are at work.
Being that far behind though is stupid but I have no idea if it's on free to air TV here at all, so even a few weeks is better than nothing unless you have a foxtel subscription.
