Was expecting a courier this morning so watching out and listening for it.  Wont mention name as this is a relief driver while regular on holiday.   I live down a right of way.  I heard the van so went out. She only came into the drive and not up to house.  I walked out and she was so busy writing out a no one home card that she jumped out of her skin when I tapped the drivers window.  She then had no choice but to give me the parcel.

Hah! Awesome. Just when she thought she was going to get away with it.

I'd have thought it would take more time to write out a card than try to deliver?

you would think so.    Week ago I was expecting one from this driver and stayed home doing work in front.  No one came up the drive and later when checked mail the card saying no one home.   So today stayed at front watching and listening for it.   Each time heard a diesel van I went and looked.  Honestly dont know why they do that when delivering is quicker

It's time drivers were fined for doing this instead of being paid for not doing their job.

My local courier drivers with the exception of 1 or 2 carriers (in Massey) are awesome.

The Courierpost guy even recognized packages addresses to us with the wrong house number and delivered it to us.

Tend to agree, well at least dock them some pay - though do you folk (and people in general) actually complain to the companies in question when this happens? If not then they probably don't even know it's happening and so can't even ask drivers not to do it. EDIT: Also make some noise about it to whoever sent the package, so they can at least make an informed decision on which company to use when sending packages.

Yeah, some drivers are great. My house is creaky and so I've tuned out many noises; when someone knocks quietly I don't even notice. A couple of days ago the courier knocked, got no response, then (because the door was open) actually called out to get my attention.

we moaned to the courier company a few months back; as we had cards dropped when people were at home and also the CCTV showed no one came to the house....they said a number of people had also made the same complaints against this driver....it is weird though; I just don't understand why they would write a card rather than deliver...is there something in their incentive scheme to encourage this behavior?

One of the drivers where we live knocks, rings the doorbell AND calls out. All in one go. Once before 7am.

Our regular Courier Post guy is also awesome. Always beeps when he pulls up, and often stops for a bit of a chat.

Drivers do get paid a pittance per package - 50c or something?

BigHammer: rings the doorbell

On that note, I should probably put "get a doorbell" on my to-do list! For whatever reason, it didn't even cross my mind until now.

I do although it rarely gets more response than "Yeah, nah, sorry about that." which I regard as the equivalent of "F O and leave us alone"!

There is rarely ownership of the issue - or recognition that it is an issue - and any attempt to improve matters, compensate customers etc etc. Just "that's the service. Take it or leave it."

And don't forget "well, you can always pay us to redeliver it Saturday..."
