KiwiNZ:

These guys are not fighting 20Th century issues they are fighting issues from approximately thousand years ago.

I know, but western meddling led to the instability that they exploited to rise. Syria? America put his daddy in charge. Iraq? America put Hussein in charge. Afghanistan? America armed the Mujaheddin (who became the Taliban and al-Qaeda). Libya? Trained and armed by America. The list goes on.

You are absolutely correct: they are fighting about the same old s*** they've been fighting about for three thousand years. What makes you think we can help today?

Edit: reminds of the opening of Blackadder Goes Forth. General Melchitt has the brilliant idea for a new push: they're going over the top. The same thing they did the last time, and the time before that, and the seventeen times before that. Which is precisely why they won't be expecting it this time, Blackadder!

The difference now is the East and West have been invited in to help in a coalition. If the World does not help do you really believe that these guys will stop when they have Iraq and Syria ?

Watch Charlie Wilson's War and wait for the last five minutes. It's an interesting account (and foreseen consequences) based on Charlie Wilson's works.

When a puppet asks for your help, is it really a request from the puppet?

I am alarmed at the use of the word 'cockroach' to describe people, and a call for extermination of them, and I am desperately avoiding Godwin's law.

They are people (at least some of whom) *believe* all that is in the Koran. Absolutely believe it. And believe the interpretations that their leaders put on it. The fact that they are wrong on both counts does not make them non-persons.

What they are doing now is exactly the same as was perfectly acceptable in Europe 1000 years ago, and dare I say it, 75 years ago. We didn't need to exterminate the Spanish, nor the Germans.

We do need to offer those people a *better* alternative than submission to a brutal regime.

Are you saying that because it was done 1,000 or 75 years ago it is acceptable?

Have you watched any of the ISIS videos? I have, and I stand by what I called them. I'm sorry if it's insulting to cockroaches however.

There's a saying: "War isn't about dying for your beliefs. It's about making some other schmuck die for his beliefs."

MileHighKiwi: We can't defeat the idea but we can definitely take down huge numbers of the scum bags in air attacks. It's awesome seeing Jordan unleashing hell after the brutal murder of the Jordanian pilot, but we need other, bigger, countires to get involved and do the same. Are ground troops even required? Can't we just bomb them off the face of the earth?

I thought Jordan already did some bombing runs and this was retaliation?

It's hard to know what's what because all our media always neglect to tell us what's pissed them off as well.

Hell no!

What I am saying is that it happened in Western society not that long ago... the Arabs/Muslims/ISIS/Taliban/mujahideen are not *that* different from us. And that calls for genocide are unacceptable.

There seem to be a lot of hammers here trying to define the problem as a nail (bomb 'em, slaughter 'em, stomp 'em, squash 'em). For what it's worth, I think your comment is one of the more thoughtful I have seen in this thread.
