Geektastic: Looks a bit like Apple Pay and Passbook to me?

Yeah pretty much. Currently only available on Android but on a decent range of NFC-capable devices.

still awaiting the list of devices... and their twitter link on their home page doesn't work for me

The launch date hasn't been publicly announced yet so just chill out for now :)

Also each mobile network operator (Spark, Vodafone, 2degrees) have their own list of devices so it could depend on who you're with.

Oh, I thought all we had to do was get a Semble enabled sim card from our operator. I have a sony xperia z1 compact, but as far as I know 2D's don't sell that model

Can we expect to see mobile payments for the iPhone 6 with ANZ this year?

Your NFC phone will need to support Single Wire Protocol (SWP) (e.g. Google Nexus devices don't ) and have the SIM Alliance OpenMobile API installed by the OEM, this is a similar spec as required by Snapper Mobile. The Semble supported handsets from each MNO will all have this capability.

There is far more to it that that.

on a side note. I went in to my local 2 Degrees store today to see if they had a compatible phone list for Semble, neither of the store sales reps new what Semble was, let alone have a phone list. Mind you the store was full of people signing up to their new plans, so I didn't waste too much of their time.
I'm betting I get Semble before UFB (2019) so not too worried.

I like fishing so can be patient ;-)

The service is not out there, there's no reason to promote and I wouldn't expect sales people to even know about it until it's ready for the market.

Now fingers crossed my Nexus 5 is a prime candidate hardware compatibility wise.

Perhaps they could put me on the trial to find out!

Last I asked, nope it's not.

Sigh. They should just use the new APIs for host-based card emulation.

Who knows, if this is true it could shape up to be more of a disappointment than google wallet.

I'm guessing my OnePlus One is pretty unlikely to get official support for Semble..

It's probably going to be a while before we see mass market products based on HCE as it's still so new.

I was always a believer that using the SIM was the best place for the secure element, but doing so meant involving the telcos. This is one of the reasons why NFC rollouts stalled - because many wanted to clip the ticket.

While I still believe that (and there are still some very significant benefits of the secure element being on/in the UICC), HCE itself also offers many significant advantages. Semble have said that they are keeping a close eye on HCE.

If you see my post on the previous page :) Commercial launch is definitely this year, but given the launch date hasn't been publicly announced it's highly unlikely any front-line staff would know about what Semble is or what devices will be available.

Thanks Flickky, no problem.
Maybe I like my tech and shiny new things too much, if I worked in a tech store I'd try to be all over new products.
Like I said I'll probably get it before UFB, and the way data plans are coming down in price and going up in caps, I probably won't need UFB by 2019

Thanks for the input, will definitely keep an eye open for launch

Back to the original question...

Just received an invite to an event 31st March in Auckland:

"Semble, New Zealand’s first mobile wallet, has been in pilot testing phase since November 2014. It’s time to share an important announcement, and you are invited to attend. This will be followed by Q&A with the Semble panel."

Thanks for the info Mauricio, pity it wasn't before the IRL on 27th. You could have given us a personal update :-)
