All infrastructure is still operating and in place, just all humans have vanished except you.

Animals are still present.

No zombies/aliens/taking dogs.

Aliens or supernatural beings would have to be part of the mix.

I can't think of any natural disaster that would leave the World intact and remove everyone except one person.

Seriously? I think I would look at the stars for awhile and then maybe cry. The macho survivalists are living in a fantasy world. So what if you are the only survivor? What do you do after you have finished congratulating yourself? I have seen some of those survivalist episodes on TV. Those idiots are stockpiling food and building defenses but they never seem to stop and think about what the point of it is. When you emerge and the rest of the world is ash and everything and everyone you ever valued is gone, your satisfaction at having made it is going to evaporate pretty fast. Maybe your family survives with you. Great, you can start a breeding program. Anyone who thinks the end of the world is an appealing prospect, and that they will somehow be spared because they prepared, really is an imbecile.

Straight to Adelaide BMW (and exotic car hire places... no porsches).
Drive fast cars and hang out with the dog. Talking to myself (the dog) has never been a problem.
Probably need a weapon for feral animals.

After a few months, I'd probably go with kiwitrc's idea of trying drink myself to death.

xpd: .... what do you do ?

(Please, no spoilers about the new series "Last Man on Earth)

I'm meaning more of a scenario like Quiet Earth rather than a "virus" outbreak.....

After the initial "WTF" moments, would you go into survival mode, or go treat yourself to all the things you wanted to do before but couldnt afford or allowed to - race a car down the motorway, set fire to the beehive, pig out on your favorite food etc.....

Interesting replies...

Mostly trying to live as they had (dreamed of living) prior to the removal of the human species.

However, to quote from my favorite 'apocalypse' work of fiction...

"He doubted whether they would survive the winter, even though they piled broken furniture into the fireplace. Some accident would quite likely overtake them, or pneumonia might strike them down.
They were like the highly bred spaniels and pekinese who at the end of their leashes had once walked along the city streets. Milt and Ann, too were city dwellers, and when the city died, they would hardly survive without it. They would pay the penalty which in the history of the world, he knew, had always been inflicted on organisms which specialised too highly. They had specialised until they could no longer adapt themselves to the new conditions."

Earth Abides by George R Stewart
Available as an E-Book.

BTW saw a programme on TV a while ago, about the earth if the human species was removed from the planet. Current Scientific thinking is that in 20,000 years there would be no trace left on the planet of human culture. Every thing we have created/done to the planet will have been erased by the natural processes of this 'Pale Blue Dot' that some say we can control...

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space

As for me, I have no idea what I would do if I was the only human left on the planet. That is something beyond my comprehension...

I do have Three books that may help though:

How to survive in the bush, on the coast, and in the mountains of New Zealand.
By Flight Lieutenant Brian Hildreth
Royal New Zealand Air Force.

Earth Abides (as above)

The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy
Douglas Adams

I would attempt to solve two apparent mysteries.

What happened to everyone else?

Why did it not happen to me?

I have a great deal of confidence that, once I could answer those questions the answers would give me a lot of very important things to do.
