Just about to go flatting, and have been looking into prices for internet and electricity, but can't really work out what would be the best. So thought I'd ask on here as you're all so helpful :)

So just wanting the cheapest electricity company who are actually worth dealing with and then the best ISP for wanting broadband but not wanting a phoneline as well. We all have cellphones so don't need the extra expense of a landline.

Oh, it's in Lower Hutt as well, probably a useful thing to add, thanks in advance for any help which is given :)

you don't need to have phone service for internet cable with TCL, as long as it is 10GB+ cable internet plan you are signing up for. Cable TV does not come as an individual service without either phone or cable internet.

Internet is my backyard...

Check out power prices at the Powerswitch website (run by Consumers' Institute). Has all the companies. You just have to have an estimate of how much power you will use.

In Petone I have Genesis for power/gas and TCL for phone+cable+tv and i'm very happy with my setup.

Personally the power co's aren't that much different from each other, just get onto the right plan, there's plans for big power users (big families or big flats) and plans for low end users, ie, day night plans.

I live alone now, but in previous flats over many many many years there have been certain occupants, shall we say that were power users. I'd be more worried about your flatmates than your power company.

Also, being a flat, be careful about who the account is under, see if you can hook up a prepay account in case ppl do runners.

Sidenote: This Opear   is killing me :(
