Along similar lines to the 'You went above and beyond for me I and wanted to say thanks!' thread, I thought I'd start a thread on eating establishments in Wellington (as the greater Wellington) that have good, honest food at good prices, and provide consistently good grub.

I'll make an statement here, that places I've been to, I've 99% of the time had my children with me as well (age 4 & 6)

I'll start:

1) Simmer Café in Churton Park. Good food, good coffee, and if, like me, you have children, a kids play area inside the café.

2) 1841 Johnsonville. Speedy service, kids menu, and kids get a kids pack (stickers, crayons, etc)

3) The roundabout, Tawa. Speedy service, kids menu, and kids get a kids pack (stickers, crayons, etc)

Any kid free places in Wellington?

I like Charley Noble and Wagamama.

Arbitrageur was a favourite before the owners took a blow to the head and ruined an excellent restaurant with a brilliant wine list by turning it into a not very excellent Vietnamese restaurant.

Went to Grill Meats Beer on Saturday, it was very good and noisy enough that kids would not be a problem, you'd never hear them over the background noise.

Satay Malaysia is another good one as is Prefab.

Went to Grill Meats Beer a few weeks back, good food that takes an eternity to arrive

+1 for Grill Meats Beer.

Although next time I will specify that they do my burger well done - I don't mind medium rare but raw in the middle is a bit much.

The chips were sublime!! Full fat fried in lard and none of your healthy oven chip BS!

I've been to Taylors in Petone a few times, fantastic food (even though Glen has taken over Zibbibo as well), good service, and great value (a tenner cheaper than you'd pay in town)... prices are only a little more than some of the nearby pubs but the food is in a whole new stratosphere.

Put your reviews in www.dineout.co.nz.

1841 in J-Ville - I went in there once a few years back and it seemed dominated by pokies and the TAB, it was pretty rough. I never went back.

+1 to Daawat.

We like Cosa Nostra on Tinakori Rd and Flying Burrito Brothers. FBB we really like, and (good or bad) you're usually in and out pretty quickly, though you can linger a bit.

I'll have to try it again and see if we have the same experience.

We were warned our order on Saturday would take about 25 mins because we ordered a dish that took 25 mins.  The snacks we ordered turned up quickly as did our drinks.

If you are going it is worth signing up for their loyalty club as you get a free drink on your first visit and a discount if you visit on your birthday.

Good timing for the thread....it's date night this weekend.  I like the sound of Grill Meats Beer.

We've always liked Boulcot St Bistro, Monsoon Poon and Phuthai Esarn (Cambridge Tce).

Ti Kouka on Willis Street above New World is awesome and unless you knew it was there you'd miss it.

Always love Zibbibos on Taranaki Street too and even better that Hashigo Zake is underneath for a good beer

I've always been a big fan of Satay Palace on Cuba Street.  Good quick and cheap food.

Also just up the road a bit on Cuba st, I enjoy going to Wasabi-sushi to jump on the sushi train! There's a great variety of different dishes with friendly staff who greet you as you arrive and depart.  I've seen kids in there, although I'm not too sure that Sushi is something kids will enjoy (full disclosure, I'm childless)?

Just a tip, sit near the start of the train right by the chefs, that way you get to see what they're making and you pretty much get first dibs on it!

Newish one with a great atmosphere, the best chicken burger I have ever tasted, and lots of beers on tap - you cant go past The Bresolin (Very top of Willis Stby the Terrace tunnel).  The outdoor fire place is great, just take a coat.

I went to Pan De Meurto on Tory St a couple of weekends ago and was quite impressed.
