I've had a gutsful of Kiwibank less than acceptable service, so am looking to change banks.

So, from a tech/user friendly perspective, which of the main banks have the best phone apps (android) and websites?

ASB Bank, though recently I have Westpac Airpoint Platinum MasterCard, and WestpacOne (web and app) is nice too.

Another vote for ASB. I really like that they list the pending transactions on your credit card and that you can transfer from the mobile app via email/mobile number.

TSB seem to have quite a good app. Plus their Customer service is the best ranked in NZ, and when you phone them you always immediately speak to a real person based in NZ who has good English.

Do transactions show up immediately on the App?

I've recently got one of these cards too and currently running it in parallel with BNZ Gold, while there are no fees.

BNZ recently introduced this feature on their web interface. With Westpac I'm still having to wait a couple of days before transactions show up (although the balance seems to update in real-time).

Went to the zoo yesterday.  Very disappointed!!.  They only had one animal, a small dog.  It was a Shih Tzu.

For me I flirted with Westpac when it came to their 0% balance transfer but I came running back to ASB with open arms. Love their website and Android app, you can make deposits into your account using their cash deposit machine so that the money appears straight away etc. So for someone that prefers to do everything via the internet and avoiding branches unless I really have to use them it is a great bank to be with.

ASB have a great website and their windows phone app is really good too. My other half uses the android app which seems to do the job.

I think this is a brilliant feature of the BNZ app, and I must say I'd love it if the other banks would introduce real-time transaction reporting on their apps and/or websites. (Do any others already provide this? I know Kiwibank and ANZ don't).

We put everything we can on the credit card, and also track all spending on a spreadsheet, and it can be really frustrating trying to get things to balance given it can take up to five days (or even longer sometimes) for some transactions to show up. The worst period is over the weekend as no transactions are added from overnight Friday until overnight Monday. Sure, balances are amended immediately, but often that's not enough to work out some spending.

I'm with ANZ and love their app.

I recently got a Westpac account for the Airpoints card and must say their website, app and customer service are absolutely dreadful compared to ANZ.

I find many of the Ozzie owned banks pretty poor when t comes to customer service. I often have to escalate things to a manager after errors are made. The exception has been ASB, although their products I use aren't as competitve as otehr banks. But in terms of the OPs requirements in getting good customer service, you can't do much better than the TSB, and they are my main transaction bank. Their premier account is also largely fee free if you retain a minimum 5k balance. So you can use your eftpos card in any banks ATM without paying transaction fees, and you just make deposits via mail, or via kiwibank branches.
