Hi
Does anyone know of a website where you can look up old weather logging from either official sources, or home weather stations?

I am looking for wind speed/direction logs for various places around NZ over the last year - preferably in 2-hour blocks but 6 hours is acceptable.
Metservice seems to only show very basic averages so I am hoping there are some of those weather watching hobby sites with networks of home stations that may provide some historical info.

Here a index site of nz weather stations.

http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/tmcgavin/current_nzweather.html

You could use it to contact the station owners to ask them for data.

A.

Try a post on www.localweather.net.nz and see how you get on. What were you going to use the data for?

This really bugs me about the metservice. AFAIK it's an SOE, owned by all New Zealanders, but the information they provide to us is really limited.

Compare with the Victoria Bureau of Meterology website... Loads of detailed information updated every 10 minutes!! and half hourly obs

/grumpy rant

Cheers,
Joseph

You could try the niwa database of all the nz weather stations,

It's free, but you need to sign up for a user Id

Thanks guys
Weather underground looks like it has the data I need.

A cousin asked me about the wind turbines I use and if i could help him with a science project since he has helped me put a couple up.

So we have come up with a theory idea for a test but, I figured we could save some time if we were to measure some performance data, we could extrapolate the performance over a year by feeding ms-excel with a years worth of data

The NIWA database above is by far the most granular and accurate - it's a bit confusing to use at first but it has loooooooooooads of data.
