Recently I discovered aliexpress, all kinds of goods for cheap. Some stuff had "normal" quality, eg screen protector. Some stuff has poor quality, some were lying about their products. So I decided to check out their electronics, under the guise of "waiting for new iPad, get something for the kids".

Searched for tablets, and there are a gazillion options. Bought one from a store with good feedback.

Published Specs:
Screen size 10"
Resolution 2048x1152
Storage: 64GB
RAM: 4GB
Battery: 10,000mAh

System info specs:
Resolution 2560x1600
Storage 65GB
RAM 4GB

Actual specs from rooted apps
Resolution 1280x 800
Storage 11GB
RAM 1GB

Faith in humanity took a hit there ...

My guess is most people won't be bothered, and if they get caught they refund some amount (or not?!!) and make money from majority being duped!

75% of my alixpress purchasers have had a minor or serious problem. However i got a refund or substantial discount on most of them.

You mean they gave you all your money back and let you keep the item?

I have only purchased one thing from them, and it wasn't what was advertised. I only got a partial refund, because they wanted me to ship it back to them at my cost, so that they could replace it. Their disputes system at Aliexpress  also doesn't work. I had a ticket open for a month, and never had any reply. SO I won't ever buy from it again. Prefer to deal with traders on ebay instead, as never had any problem.

US 160
At that spec I'd expect to pay US 80+

Alibaba have had massive problems with fakes. Fakes are a problem all throughout China - even with things like Milk Powder. It would be hugely helpful for the chinese economy if their government cracked down on fraud....

There's a number of cheap Nvidia GTX780 cards on Aliexpress for under US$100 which is too good to be true.
Someone from Reddit checked it out and got a GTX750 with a hacked BIOS.
Plenty of positive feedback though, I guess people are getting fooled.

JayADee: I'm glad you posted your experience.

I was curious about how their specs were so good, thought I'd check it out once and for all to satisfy my curiosity. Plus the website guarantees the descriptions etc, and I've had good experiences before in non electronics purchases.

Curiosity killed the cat.

Are any random person like me allowed to blog on Reddit? I'm keen to contribute on this tablet teardown. The seller has stopped communicating.

I've never posted on Reddit but I'm pretty sure that's what it's all about - anyone can contribute and the more interesting stuff gets upvoted and gains a wider audience.

With Aliexpress purchases, if the seller ignores you I'd recommend you go straight to Aliexpress
