According to one person who commented here
http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/gadgets/73476776/whats-the-big-deal-with-the-nexus

I have never found that, I have always found Geekzone members to be very helpful.
At least you guys and girls know what you are talking about.

I have no idea who made the comment but I can see how there could be that perception, so often when you make a comment or helpful suggestion you're told that you're wrong by countless individuals (whether you're wrong or not) it's like a game on one-upsmanship.

I do find myself spending less time on here because of it and choosing carefully any posts to respond to.

Luddites do.

People have opinions. That changes depending on how their day went.

Geekzone is a great place to talk all things tech! People on here are awesome and the moderators are doing a great job cleaning out all the time wasters on these forums.

Technology relates stuff tends to foster decent discussions.

Complaints about ISPs, shops etc tend to get short shrift if they aren't justified (this is one of the few places that people usually back the company in question in a lot of cases).

Any social issue, political issue etc tends to descend in quality REALLY fast.

People here have VERY strong opinions on a broad range of topics. Some people just don't realise when they are wrong (and anyone who disagrees with me is wrong, that's how this works right?).

In my eyes Geekzone rates as the best forum of all those i do and have frequented, well moderated, minimal spam, real professionals willing to share their personal time and knowledge to help the community

What i have learn't is that most geeks tend to be family focused, wide range of hobbies and pastimes and come from all walks of life, the traditional stereotype is all but non-existant

I would hazard a guess that most people in NZ interact in one way or another with a GZ member without even realizing it

Interesting comments from there - and here.

Over the years we have kept our moderation within the FUG, and people came to accept that this is how we keep things civil. There's banter, a lot of it, and we wouldn't stop that because it's how society evolves.

However when people get out of line we do exercise our right of banning accounts. Most of the times this comes as consequence of reports from other members.

Also many times I've seen people rightly banned from here going on other places to complain how arrogant we are. I have a policy of not replying to emails from anyone banned. Many times we have confirmation that our actions were correct because of the offensive emails received from the person banned from our site.

Or then there are cases such as one user who back in 2013 asked to have his account closed because he saw "no need for a Geekzone account and it's just taking space on his password manager". Then this week he emailed me asking why he can't access his account since he wants to take advantage of the Nexus 6P discount for users. I replied pointing out he asked the account to be closed in 2013, to what he replies saying "Really? I don't remember this and I still have the password on my password manager, so it should still be valid."

So, yes, we are arrogant for those who don't behave well.

That's all I will say in this thread.

Regarding GZ doing reviews, they can be aimed at technical people with a good level of knowledge / experience or at the (majority) general population who use technology as tools.

I find people here generally friendly and helpful. Sometimes I feel like I start a significant fraction of the threads here with my random questions, I almost always get useful and interesting replies, and rarely get any arrogance or hassle. Sometimes, jokes or a gentle ribbing, which are good :)

I find the standard of discussion here to be very high overall (of course there are exceptions) and moderation is tight. Many Geekzone members are also genuine experts in their fields (lots of engineers and specialists), so any technical comment that is not spot-on is likely to be swiftly corrected. I certainly don't find that a bad thing and it is usually done without undue sneering. It is also done for free by people who could otherwise command high fees but are prepared to help others out anyway. In fact, most Geekzoners go out of their way to be helpful, and newbie questions are almost always answered seriously and respectfully. My days would be a lot less interesting without Geekzone.

I've said it before: the ignorance displayed in many Stuff comments is appalling. Doesn't matter what the subject at hand is, anyone can write stupid comments and get away with trolling.

I'll stick to being with you snobby lot. tongue-out

Snobby and arrogant?

Next they'll accuse the boss of smoking cigars and whiskey drinking.

Oh wait....
