dclegg: I can't believe that video has 22 dislikes. The Internet can be a real dick sometimes.

I wonder whether YouTube does vote "fuzzing" like Reddit. There the votes are sort of approxamitized, but it's not a great system IMHO. It will sort of aggregate the votes but it makes it unclear as to the actual votes, i.e. You can't tell whether you're (+100 and -101, resulting in score of -1) or just one downvote resulting in score of -1.

Cheers,
Joseph

My daughter turns 4 next month and we're having a lot of trouble convincing her that Santa will come visit us even though it's not snowing :) She didn't quite know what to expect last year but it's pretty cool to have her so excited about it this time.

I'm looking forward to the time off, it's been an extremely busy year.

Can I just take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy holiday and good times, irrespective of religious tradition? What is wonderful about New Zealand is that there is room for everyone here. Sorry, no inspirational videos to contribute, but I do have lots of cute cat clips!

I' ve been very sick the last few years, this summer is the first time I've had any energy back whatsoever so I'm feeling grateful. I' m not going to get un-sick but at least I am weller! I hope it's a long summer.

That video made me cry.

Seasons best wishes to you all!

networkn: I am not too proud to say that my guilty pleasure at xmas, is the movie Love Actually. I have seen it as many times as I've seen ANY other movie. I just love it, un apologetically. Liam Neeson is so awesome in it.

SNAP! Was talking to my daughter at lunch today. She wants to make us some Gluhwein (a traditional German Christmas drink, based around red wine) on Christmas Eve, so we can all sit down with a glass and watch a good Christmas movie. I suggested Love Actually. :-)

Sorry to hear you haven't had a great year. I can't profess to having had any majors this year, but I am tired and looking forward to a break, despite having got back from the gold coast only 10 days ago.

It's all relative. We still have our health (mostly; I was diagnosed Coeliac this year), and we're coming to the end of what has been a very stressful journey for us (I won't go into details here, as this is meant to be a positive thread). There are many far, far worse off than us.

I hope your Christmas is extra special!

I hope you and your family have an awesome one too! And that goes for all other fellow Geekzoners and their families.

Good luck with that, I'm sure she will be a believer in no time. Does Spark still do the Santa hot line?

My kids were both born in Australia (no snow there either), and were both firm believers until just before high school.

Yeap just come back from Cologne today doing a few laps of the christmas markets with many a Gluwhein (with a shot of rum), or mulled wine as commonly called in NZ in hand....usually with a bratwurst in the other. There is something to be said for a Winter Christmas. I didn't think I'd rate it to be honest.

Looks like stuff has been watching this thread...?  http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/christmas/74905215/the-awesome-santas-who-are-spreading-extra-christmas-magic

As usual, contains some excellent journalism... "Two weeks ago, photos of 6-month-old Zeke Walters, 6 months, together with Santa, went viral." - Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Zeke is 6 months old.  Cute photo none the less!

One of the very few "Romantic Comedies" that actually are  funny and romantic.

I usually despise rom-coms but I like this movie.

If you haven't seen it, I really recommend it.

Santa has already been kind to me this year. Mum survived her heart surgery in October and is well on the road to recovery. What more could I ask for? (apart from an Audi RS4!)

networkn: This isn't SPECIFICALLY Christmas exclusively, but we were in the USA a few Christmas ago, shopping, when a solider surprised his mother, who was working at a shop we were in. It fitted in the top 10 things I've ever witnessed in terms of special. She was actually serving us and talking about how she wouldn't have her son home for xmas, and how hard it has been for them.. She thought we were in on it. Was incredible.

at 59secs had tears running down my face.

Last year I came back to NZ from living in South America 3 months before my family did. When my family arrived back at Auckland Int'l Airport, my two eldest boys (aged 4 & 6 at the time) just ran to me from the gate and we had a huge huge hug ....... just a wow special moment that I'll never forget. These US soldiers would have been away for much longer, so I can only imagine how is was for them.

My 1 year old, on the other hand, didn't remember me and actually turned away from me when I tried to kiss him, that hurt.

Great to see the wife again also, chocolates and flowers on hand for her.
