Well after 9 xmas' ruined by metal illness and/or generally bad behaviour (not mine) I am very pleased to say I am really excited for this xmas, I have my xmas songs on my phone at work playing at the moment, and am looking forward to not only spending xmas with a very special person, then off camping for a Summer holiday for the first time in my life.

I really hope everyone out there can find a positive in xmas and enjoy the season.

I know a little more than nothing but not much...

Kiwifruta:
networkn: This isn't SPECIFICALLY Christmas exclusively, but we were in the USA a few Christmas ago, shopping, when a solider surprised his mother, who was working at a shop we were in. It fitted in the top 10 things I've ever witnessed in terms of special. She was actually serving us and talking about how she wouldn't have her son home for xmas, and how hard it has been for them.. She thought we were in on it. Was incredible.

BEWARE. No matter how tough you think you are, you will likely blubber like a baby watching this.

at 59secs had tears running down my face.

Last year I came back to NZ from living in South America 3 months before my family did. When my family arrived back at Auckland Int'l Airport, my two eldest boys (aged 4 & 6 at the time) just ran to me from the gate and we had a huge huge hug ....... just a wow special moment that I'll never forget. These US soldiers would have been away for much longer, so I can only imagine how is was for them.

My 1 year old, on the other hand, didn't remember me and actually turned away from me when I tried to kiss him, that hurt.

Great to see the wife again also, chocolates and flowers on hand for her.

Hi.

Don't be offended by your daughter, it happens to me too, and that's just coming home from work ! :)

It's an awesome clip.

I am fortunate enough to fly business when I am in the US usually. I make it a habit of doing a seat swap for those armed service people if they are on a flight. I usually just ask the attendant to do it prior to boarding and ask not to be identified with a message of thanks for their service.

The sacrifice is huge, that they make, regardless of the reasons or whether or not you agree with the agenda.

In Hawaii, our rental car place was beside the American armed forces Military recruitment services, we had a fairly long wait and a bunch of them came out and played with our kids, gave them flags, and toys and stuff.

Clearly we all (or very many of us!) love the joy of Christmas, so I wish all you Geekzoners a Merry Christmas! And to hell with Susan Devoid who wants to stop such greetings!

I'm not at all religious but receiving Christmas greetings is very pleasant. And I am also happy to exchange similar greetings with friends of other religions: Happy Hanukkah! Eid Mubarak! Happy Divali! etc etc. Why not? Why should our Race Relations Conciliator be such a grinch?

She has a tough job, and because she is well known, she attracts more attention. She has been misquoted and misunderstood a few times as well. Not saying she is perfect, but I don't think it can all fall on her :)

scuwp: There are only 2 types of people in this world. Those that believe Die Hard is a Christmas movie and the others that are wrong. bring on John!

We watch Home Alone 1 + 2 every christmas, and just about any other excuse works too.

As I said, used to love it, still do if I try really hard, but it's one of those things you can't easily unsee.

I'm not a fan of Xmas. At least in ways some people do it.
Buy stuff they don't want, cook piles of food no-one wants to eat.
Etc....

But in our house there is just granddaughter (as far as kids). Xmas is for kids......she's excited having noticed some wrapped items sitting about.
She made daddy pay for a couple of presents for us too - rather that didn't happen but he restrained her and just got food type items.

Making nibbles rather than a big meal....inc strawberry santas.
She loves strawberries and with a bit of cream it's not a sugar laden nightmare so she can eat them all....
She likes to help too so it's all fun for her.

It's fun watching her enjoy it all.
