Petrol stations with one person behind the counter in the morning. That person goes away to make a batch of coffee drinks for someone who is holding the whole queue of people who just want to pay for the petrol and get out ASAP.
That's why I go to Z with pay at pump. Even tho it would be about the same for 98 at mobil with smiles discount, I have to go in to the shop and they are _SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW_ in there.
neb: That Jaycar has four staff for each customer while Bunnings has 0.04 staff for each customer.
Go next door to mitre10 then, although they seem to have calmed down on annoying me and asking if they can help when I am wandering around looking. Was sooooooo annoying.
Worst at bunnings is when you need paint and they have to get someone to come and open it for you.
I was under the impression that the petrol stations don't let the next person fill up at that pump until the first person has paid.

I think I would rather have that than the situation at Bunnings where you want to find a staff member to ask them something and there’s no-one around - and you have to walk around for five minutes to find someone.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

If that’s a reply to my post then you’ve misread it. I clearly said pay, order your coffee then move your car while the coffees are being made.
Clearly you're not waiting in a line before you can pay, holding up the person waiting at the pump. Clearly.
In a supermarket queue, person in front (usually an older/elderly lady, for some reason) waits until all shopping has been scanned and all items bagged and placed in trolley before attempting to open handbag, search for purse which holds club/One card, fumble about with purse and a number of other cards, have a chat about how when you get old, blah blah, blah - then finally they swipe the card - upside down and back to front, three times before finally swiping correctly. THEN they go through the same with the payment card - one card at a time. Putting the purse away each time first.
Then they stand and chat about what a lovely experience shopping was today and move on. Meanwhile, all I wanted was to get my shopping on the conveyer belt, through the scanner and into my trolley so I can get out of there.
I'm not elderly, but I am not a youth either - am I being too impatient? Probably.

Not at all. But the cost of click and collect vs the hassle it cuts out is well worth it IMO. When you can get a slot because of how few lockers and staff they have. And that they will cut down the quantities of 1.5 coke zeros to how many they can be bothered to deal with rather than the limit of 12.

I'd suggest the self checkout, but that's probably not going to help either. Seen the other day:
- Gets into "card only" lane
- Goes to terminal with big "card only" sign around the screen
- Presses confirmation button on screen when it pops up "this is card only" warning
- Scans 20 or so items
- Tries to put cash in machine
- Calls attendant over to ask for help
- Attendant has to cancel the whole transaction and move her to a cash lane
Meanwhile the rest of us are queued up waiting for a checkout to become available...

Yes, probably. But then I get impatient in similar circumstances too.
But I try and put myself in their shoes. Maybe, due to the current conditions, that is the only time they have plucked up the courage to leave the safety of their home that week. They may be overwhelmed by how busy things are, or need to be very deliberate about their use of things like their bank card so they don’t make a mistake. They may need to do things one at a time. Or their conversation with the cashier may be their only human interaction for the day.
I have to ask myself “What is so important about me and my time, that I can’t just wait?”. The answer is normally “nothing”.
I noted supermarkets in Australia have “Quiet Hours” specifically set aside for people who are easily overwhelmed by noise, crowds or pace.

I use delivery saves a whole lot of hassle and no impulse buying.
