So Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter,...

No FB and Twitter account, one Windows virtual machine for compatibility reasons (so it’s safely in a cage).

I own only an Android phone with daily updated Google Apps … (I assume due to enforced changes by laws).

Since I don‘t use those deactivated Google apps, I don‘t care too much of it except of basic OS and safety functions. I doubt I‘ll buy an Android phone again but for the moment, it‘s like that.

- NET: FTTH, OPNsense, 10G backbone, GWN APs, ipPBX
- SRV: 12 RU HA server cluster, 0.1 PB storage on premise
- IoT: thread, zigbee, tasmota, BidCoS, LoRa, WX suite, IR
- 3D: two 3D printers, 3D scanner, CNC router, laser cutter

Current annoyance:

My elderly mother had a bit of a fall last week in a South Island city.

Her doctor thinks she may have a fracture in her wrist - so an appointment has been made for an X-Ray. Actually, it's not an appointment. It's an appointment to get an appointment. No ETA. SHE'S 82 FFS! She needs an X-ray on a suspected broken wrist. She is on painkillers and is now largely unable to do her own housework and dad isn't much better or more use than a broken mum.

Grrrrrr. It's a city in a modern country - you should be able to get emergency medicine (X-Rays included!).

If this was Wellington she could go to the After Hours medical center and get x-rayed there. Don’t you have an equivalent service down South?

If she is suffering take her to emergency at the hospital, she will be triaged and have to wait hours likely so choose your timing. You could call first and ask if they are busy. Best of luck.

Yahoo mail.

Am negotiating something and wasn’t getting some responses. Checked Spam, many of the reply emails were in there, none had attachments. Also from the same address a lot were going correctly to the inbox. Then today, found a fresh lot of his emails from last week in Spam again. Stopped using yahoo and switched to gmail.

Mentioning this in case anyone else uses Yahoo and has similar missing messages.

I also found a pile of GZ emails in said Spam. The only one that escaped and went to the inbox was the one from Maurice re survey.

Over the last couple of years, Orcon mail has started doing the same. It's pretty much useless for communicating to the gmail domain now.

I'm in AKL - she's in Dunedin. I have told her to go to an after hours clinic somewhere or a private A&E, but as so many elderly people are, she's stubborn and wants to use the hospital.

If it was a fall (accident) wouldn't ACC cover the xray. Wellington typically Dr writes referral, patient goes to radiographer.

HR are a very special species of human being. In the past, they would try to find a candidate according to my profile and if suitable, start the recruitment process.

Today, they have candidates who are supposed to have some special skills (I never found out what they are) and try to push them into the team with all their might - even though they are not technically suitable. You have to come up with very good arguments to avoid being seen as an HR process blocker in the end. It then costs a lot of effort to get these "high flyers" dismissed ...

A cell phone call the other day while riding my bicycle home for lunch. I stop and pull the phone out of the handlebar bag.
"We need your email address to send you data."
"Where are you calling from?"
"Darwin."
"OK, use the email address on the website. Oh, sorry the phone battery is going flat."
Obviously an Indian calling. And yes, the number recorded on the cell phone indicated it was most likely from Darwin.

Another call today, a recording, "Your account has had a $900 debit for iTunes we think it is an error please hit 1."
On asking for the account number that it is debited to, a long pause and the Indian hung up.

Before the Moderator calls "racist", please explain why they are always Indians making the calls.
