Geektastic: I filled up with diesel in Rangiora.

By the time you add RUCs it’s probably now more expensive than 91 unleaded!

It should be, as you get to go further per liter with diesel than 91

Depends. My wife’s Honda Jazz goes further on petrol than my Mercedes goes on diesel.

I think you're wrong. Based on your comment I put diesel in my car and it only went a short distance and then made funny noises and stopped.

The BP across the road from our office had diesel at $2.799 less than two weeks ago, $3.059 last week and it's $3.099 today.

My spreadsheet tells me our manual 320d (with RUCs) would be just over $4800 for 20k kms. Whilst a newer 118i would do it for $3500. An EV should be around $600.

So we bit the bullet last week and bought an EV.

I really feel for those who can't afford to change and have to keep filling up.

Having an "ad-free" account on a website, and still needing to use an ad blocker to remove the remaining seven pieces of "promotional content" per page that any normal person would class as an ad.

One of the very many things that really irritated me about Sky was the endless promos. I cancelled my subscription years ago but I am curious if anything has changed. Are there still any subscribers who can provide an update on this?

Nope.  Still the same.  Particularly on the documentary type channels (fed straight from Oz by the looks) where they will run the same promo sequence for upcoming shows 4 or 5 times an hour for weeks on end.

While I'm bleating about ads.  The newish footer one here on GZ is particularly annoying (yes I know I have options to not have ads, and running a website isn't free ), especially when I'm viewing on a 12.5" laptop, where it has now reached the stage that the entire screen real-estate is filled with the same ad three times and I need to do a fair bit of scrolling to reach any useful content.  This puts me off the product/company rather than tempting me into buying it.

Thanks for explaining "plethora".

It means a lot.

Did you account for paying RUCs on the EV when they come in?

I’d change but there are very few EVs that will deliver 1200km per charge and match the luxury interior of an E400d. Those that do are heading for $150k and I’m not spending that on a car.

If/when/maybe. RUC's will be here at some point (not for two years anyway) but how they will work is anyone's guess. By then diesel will be $5 a litre.

I'm not getting into an argument about range or luxury. You don't buy an EV to cross continents, although you can. I've got an M5 to do that. The i3 does our weekly commute on a single charge and is luxurious enough for around town.

Ah. It’s a bit less green if you have three cars though…!

You should always carry a spare pair of wired headphones when you're out. You can use the wire to strangle the offenders.

I was right at the end of a remote zoom sales demo of our cloud based software to a group of 10 prospective clients when that happened.

Smoothly stopped screen sharing and finished answering questions with just my face :D
