Borrowed my wife’s Mazda to take the lad to his music lesson tonight and ensured it was all locked before leaving it and tested that the doors were locked by trying to open the rear doors. It was secure and parked under a light.

After the lesson we jump back in her car and the keyless ignition thing refused to rotate. Every time I tried it flashed a key icon with an exclamation mark. I also noted there was a flashing another red security icon which I forget the exact detail of for now.

Pressing the lock/unlock button on the remote is working fine so it’s not a dead battery. I took the key fob apart and cleaned the battery with my sleeve and shifted it slightly in the holder in case it was poor contact. Nothing is working. At this point I’m looking like a car thief fiddling with a cars ignition. Even removed all that junk and tried the manual key that you can insert. Nadda.

So I google it. There’s a bunch of answers for this but they’re all wrong

It was simply the steering lock. On my car the steering lock releases with the slightest wiggle of the wheel in conjunction with the key such that it happens almost automatically without trying but on hers it needs more deliberate force.

Glad you figured it out! On my Toyota the steering lock automatically disengages when you hit the Power button, but on my old Ford I had to tug it.

I have this problem in my Nissan occasionally. It happens about once a year, the steering lock must just get on a funny angle, but it's guaranteed to happen on the day when you are most in a hurry.

Ah, yes. Been there before. The NZ version of Spider-Man No Way Home seems to have some deliberate errors on it (returned it, got a new one, failed at the same point... while working fine on an actual player) but foreign ones apparently don't. Hopefully you're not seeing the same sort of thing there, and hopefully a replacement will sort it out.

Doubt if its deliberate errors. Its (sort of) a golden oldie - 20000 Leagues under the Sea from 1954. The disc is new but made in 2019, got from ebay. Not much danger of a replacement.

 

Just wish 'backup' programs were a bit more tolerant of errors. Or maybe it needs a quick polish with Unicorn spit...

Thanks for that. I actually have two drives in a Fractal case, but neither worked. Till half an hour ago anyway. Might well have been third time lucky though 😀

The ASB banking app. Full of small annoyances.

For example, when you go to pay someone the account from which you are paying appears at the top. If you forget to change that and then do it once you have completed the payee account details, references etc, it wipes out all the typing so you have to laboriously re enter all of it. Why?!

EBGames,

 

I saw that microsoft said there would be a shortage of controllers and as I only have one, wanted to get another.

 

Went on to their site, saw that most colours were gone but blue and black were in stock, so chucked one of each in my cart and an off brand media remote since the microsoft one is so aweful.

 

Glenfield listed stock so click and collect because their "economy" shipping is $9.50 (thats not what I call economical)

 

Anyway, about 15 mins later get an email that they dont have stock, click to edit the order. I do that and newmarket shows as having stock. So change to that.

 

Time goes by, same email arrives again, but Manukau have stock, so change to that.

 

And again, same thing happens so I choose the cancel option to get a refund. Which will apparantly take 3-4 days.

 

So that is 3 branches that have no idea what stock they have in them. Totally hopeless.

 

 

 

I went to JB and they only had 2 blue ones left so got one of those, checked out themarket and ordering a yellow one from someone on there (I think its noel leeming but not sure)
