Apple wanting to place more advertising across the IOS and iPadOS platforms including Apple maps. Greedy sods I guess close to $US100 billion profit is not enough.

That reminds me... next time I go down the other end of town I need to see whether the New Road Layout signs (installed April 2017) are still there. They were last time I actively looked, a few months ago, but I'm not sure whether they're still there.

Shock and awe... they're gone!

If it's any consolation, Transmission Gully has been open since late March and there is still a "New Road Layout" sign at the top of James Cook drive in Whitby.  (I hadn't reported this but I have now.)

Thanks for explaining "plethora".

It means a lot.

When neighbours make a racket late into the night on a weekend. On Saturday I had an early-ish night and went to bed at about 10. At 10:15 a car turned up next door and the noise began.

At about 11:15 I heard the car leave, followed by blissful silence. Of course I couldn't immediately drift off to sleep thanks to the adrenaline(?) from the annoyance. Fifteen minutes later they turned up again and managed to set off the car's alarm, then proceeded to make more noise until around midnight.

Sounds like it was time for some noisy lawn mowing/weed-eating along the boundary at 7am on the Sunday morning.

Speaking of noise - motorway extension being built a few hundred metres down the road. Works go on 24/7. The noise carries.

Some of the construction  noises are baffling - I simply can't imagine what they are doing at 2am that sounds like a cross between a helicopter and a power drill, mixed with a road sweeper and a vacuum.

Haven't had an amazing amount of sleep for a few months. Will likely be a few months more before we get any more

Knobs on toasters for degrees of dark and light toasting that don’t have a 'click in' for each number but freewheel instead so that if you wipe the toaster or brush past you end up with number 6 burnt toast next time.

This ultimately happens only on days that the last two dryish pieces of bread are used and you desperately crave some marmalade toast.

Yay, the smoke alarm worked this time...but, someone nameless had misplaced the broom used to stab it to stop its shrieking so a bar stool was required to climb up and reach with a wooden spoon that wouldn’t reach...of course.

If ACC asks,'how did you fall off the stool?'

'I was making toast...'

I swear our toaster's dial is nothing more than a random number generator. You never get the same outcome twice and if you move the dial even a smidge its like you dialed up nuclear reactor meltdown mode.

Why do toasters even have a "charcoal" mode in the first place?

Return On Investment is a ratchet... if profits go up, then stock prices go up. Once the stock price has gone up, managers are pressured to maintain if not increase profits. If they manage to increase profits, the cycle repeats. If a manager is too ethical or concerned about his customers, he'll be replaced by one who is more profit-motivated.

Making kvass requires that the rye bread be toasted to almost black. My cheapy toaster needs the dial turned up to 11, and even then each slice toasted twice.
