My Dad was from the motor industry and always referred to the trunk and hood for vehicles. He referred to gear levers for manual transmissions and gear selectors for auto transmissions. So we have always used these terms

I think we had this discussion before. Lots of people use Americanisms. That is one of the problems with them. It doesn't make them correct.

@Rikkitic I get your point. It’s a case of both sets of terms are correct. I just feel that trunk and hood better describes the items.

Truck has always been used in NZ, instead of lorry (which seem to be a UK thing).

I agree that we used to refer to fire engines. I'm not sure when it changed to trucks.

I used an Americanism once.

It was nowhere near as good as the custom-made isms I had from a local provider.

When overseas subscriptions don't state whether the price shown is in NZ$ or US$, or whether GST is on top or included! (Usually "On Top" thus making it 15% dearer)!

Disney+ is just one example!
