That every now and then the "First reply since reset" button at the end of a post heading gets a little confused and keeps taking me back to posts from a 3-4 days ago. Its happening now and its a little frustrating.

PS.... I think I might of mentioned this before and I'm sure Mauricio posted a valid explanation for why it happens but I can't remember so I'm more annoyed at my poor memory than anything else.

Bread always lands butter-side down. Cats always land on their feet. Which force would win if you strap bread, buttered side up, to the back of a cat - and drop?

I know it's a joke, but Felis Catus actually has a reflex, sensory organs that transmit orientation information directly to the brain, and incredible flexibility designed to allow said cat to land on its feet. There's a scientific reason they always right themselves, the bread has no such advantage.

.... even though the bread will be smarter than some cats.

The theory is usually that the cat/bread combo will spin at high speed just above the floor.

Restaurants that don't allow adults to order from the kids menu. I am a very small eater and wind up wasting a lot of food when dinning out.

This does assume a perfect connection between cat and bread (difficult to achieve non-surgically), high tensile strength bread, and an inflexible cat.

My wife is the same. Every time we eat out she is always asked if there was something wrong with her meal because she didn't finish it. It annoys her, not only the waste but it takes away from her enjoyment of dining out knowing the inevitable question is going to come at the end of the meal. She would also like to enjoy an entrée followed by a main when eating out but never orders one so she sits there while everyone else enjoys their entrée.

One restaurant even got upset when she wanted to order two entrées, the second to be brought with everyone else's mains.

On the Mitre 10 website, I posted this review of the Mitre 10 review on the "Black+Decker Surge Protection Powerboard 10 amp White"

"I use this powerboard to turn on and off a laptop, with minimal accessories. After a year the switch failed, spraying sparks and making a sizzling noise. I expected more of Black and Decker."

I got this email from Mitre 10

"We publish all reviews, positive or negative, if they meet our moderation guidelines. Unfortunately, in this case, we were unable to publish your review.

Common reasons for not being able to publish a product review:
  • The review is not about a product. We love hearing about our shopping experience and staff, but we can’t publish these as product reviews.

  • Our website is family friendly, so profanity and creatively mis-spelled words that hint at something stronger mean we can’t publish a review.
If you would like to edit or write a new review, please use the links below."

And that is why we take reviews with the "grain of salt" that they deserve! And why I have rarely bothered doing one!

(Harvey Norman also filter out the honest bad ones too! From personal experience!)

I have noticed recently more restaurants offering “Share Plates”. Slightly more substantial than an entrée but less than a main meal, and (unsurprisingly) multiple small items on the plate, suitable for sharing. On a recent road trip we found ourselves needing to eat out but not wanting a big meal. Share plates fit the bill perfectly. Maybe seek out an establishment that offers such a thing?

Restaurants provide a paid service. They are not doing you a favour by allowing you to eat their food. A restaurant that treats its customers this way does not deserve any. Don't give them your money and make sure everyone knows why.

Agree. If I want 2 entrees, I don't want the restaurant judging me. A good friend of ours doesn't eat a huge amount and frequently orders two entrees. I've never been with him at a restaurant where that has been an issue.

And we've eaten at many who are only too happy to oblige by providing two entrees. It was just this one restaurant that took an exception and we never went back there.

Often if we're ordering a take away we'll order two entrees and one main to share. we've never done this at a sit down restaurant but if getting Indian for example its great to share a couple of different entrees then a curry. More than enough for the both of us.

Eva888: Never thought of copying of the imprint.
That's because that type of fraud hasn't really existed for at least two decades [0], which is why I referred to it as an artefact in my post - you skim the mag stripe, not the imprint, and with newer NFC-enabled cards, you just read them remotely. Cards have a lot of protection mechanisms on them for fraud from the previous century, for example they used to print the IIN (Issuer Identification Number) below the embossed version because fraudsters would iron flat the card number and re-emboss their own one. Merchants were supposed to check the embossed IIN against the printed IIN to detect this, but none of them ever did, and in any cast it became moot when zip-zap machines went the way of the dodo. [0] In fact I'm not sure if copying-the-imprint fraud ever existed, to be able to do that you'd need physical access to the card, which means you're the person operating the zip-zap machine, which in turn means that you already have a carbon copy of the receipt, there's no need to make a separate copy of the imprint for fraud purposes.

Many moons ago I banked with the Royal Bank of Scotland. Their Switch cards (like Visa Debit here) had  photos of the cardholder on the back next to the signature.

I agree with this.

I eat my steak well done. By well done, I mean like an old boot.

I went to a famous chef's restaurant and the only thing that appealed to me on the meu was a steak. I sheepishly asked the waiter if it could be well done.

The famous chef came out and quite discretely asked who had ordered the well done steak. I admitted it was me. He explained why my meal would take a lot longer to cook as he didn;t want to simply blacken and ruin it, but wanted to take the challenge to make it enjoyable, by cooking it slower and with more care.

This was going to hold up everyone else at the table - that was his main concern. The rest of the table were OK with that and we got on the drinks instead, while we waited for him to incinerate my meat and gently cook everyone else's meals.

One of the best dining experiences I have ever had.

Restaurants that charge an arm and a leg and insist on you eating the way they want to eat? They don't get my custom. Simple.
