The pedant strikes: Euthanasia is often incorrectly used as a euphemism for just killing something. It means the painless killing of a patient or animal suffering from an incurable and painful disease or injury or in an irreversible coma. It is done as an act of kindness to relieve suffering.

In this case the dog wasn't in any of those categories - it wasn't suffering - its barking was just a PITA to humans so they had it killed. It wasn't an act of kindness to the dog.

Still the right decision though, IMO.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Speaking of barking dogs - there's a lovely dog that's recently moved in down the road.

It's owners are less lovely and are far noisier than the dog.

The sheer volume of overseas spam calls I am getting lately on my mobile!

Every day I get at least one, more on other days.

Nearly all of them are "This is the Visa credit card team..." or words to that effect.

Having worked for Visa, I know they have no direct-to-cardholder interactions, so I won't get caught up in a scam, but my elderly parents likely would.

It's a different number every time too, so blocking them makes no difference.

Grrrr....

I agree. I wish the governments of the world would get together and devote as much effort to fighting these cross border scammers as they do to chasing drug smugglers.

A number of years ago, I watched a video presented by the US Secret Service regional officer for AU/NZ as a part of a Cards fraud seminar.

It was of an operation in Nigeria, with Secret Service agents and Nigerian Govt officials breaking up a "Nigerian Prince" call cybercrime operation. It was filmed by camera operators and bodycams and was like a Netflix movie.

They stormed the camp, broke open the doors to a large building filled with people at computers and then a shootout started! It was wild.

Anyway - moral of the story is that they closed that one down, with much fanfare and a thousand more were still operating. I just don't know how they'd be able to stop more sophisticated operations out of Russia/Belarus and the like.

Reminds me of when I used to live in a rental that was up a shared driveway with 3 other houses (it was 4 townhouses, 2 joined to each other opposite another 2) and my bedroom was downstairs at the front of the house. The neighbours in the house opposite would do something similar with the man starting the car (which was just outside my bedroom window) just after 6am and sitting in it with the engine running for up to 20 minutes while waiting for the woman to be ready to leave.

They also often had visitors over and when they were ready to leave at 1am they would stand outside (again right outside my bedroom window) talking for another half hour with their car engine running, and for some reason repeatedly opening and slamming closed the car doors. Thankfully they eventually moved and a quiet single woman bought the house, although I ended up having to move shortly after that as the house got sold. Wouldn't be keen to do a shared driveway again.

I am generally against Capital punishment, but at this point, I'd support an international initiative to have anyone confirmed to be deploying Ransomware, to be removed via Ballistic missile. If a few 'random' houses suddenly blew up, pretty sure those people doing this would start getting pretty freaking nervous.
