allan: This one noted by my wife (it seems I don't notice these things). The apparent "requirement" for female TV sports and weather presenters to teeter about in extraordinarily high heels while attempting to present their respective segments without over-balancing.
I have also been struck by this. The poor female presenters look like a bad parody of the 1950s. Watching them makes my feet hurt. I don't know who forces this on them, but I would imagine it is male managers who have looked at too many fetish magazines. I would much prefer all presenters to wear comfortable, natural looking clothes and shoes. This is the 21st century, after all. Time to let the wifeys out of the caves. And maybe do something about those gawdawful school uniforms while they are at it.

johno1234: There’s no way any male manager at a tv company would tell a presenter what shoes to wear. If he did, and it came to light, he would be destroyed.
Occam’s razor says the presenters wear the shoes they selected themselves. Ask any woman why they wear those uncomfortable looking shoes and you’ll get the same answer: “they look good”. It’s not up to us blokes to pass judgement on that.
The thing is, they don't look good. They look uncomfortable and unnatural. Dress policy at TV studios may not be explicitly stated by any individual manager, but you can bet it is something everyone is expected to somehow know and follow.

freitasm: They wouldn't "have" to remove MSG. It is not bad.

Correct. And it has less sodium than salt.
Wow, never knew that
"MSG can be used to reduce sodium in these foods without a taste trade-off. MSG contains about 12 percent sodium, which is two-thirds less than that contained in table salt, and data shows a 25 to 40 percent reduction in sodium is possible in specific product categories when MSG is substituted for some salt"
I guess I was subject to the general uninformed opinion of MSG
johno1234: I have a mate who avoids Chinese food. He’s convinced the msg prevents him from sleeping for the next 12 hours or so.
Unsure if related, but back in the day we went shooting and fishing every waking hour, my mate worked in a burger bar when we were teens. There was a container of XXXX, white powder, he said they add it to make people hungry and thirsty (or maybe just thirsty), I must ask him
johno1234:
I agree they don’t look good. But that’s our opinion. It is paternalistic if not outright sexist for us to impose our opinions on women choosing their footwear or to suggest they can’t do so. They’re grown women not little children. So, ask one why they wear those shoes. The answer will not be that some guy influenced her to do so. It will be because she likes the way they look.
I suspect the answer would be that they don't want to jeopardise their career or position in the company by standing out in this way. Conformity to dress codes is a big thing in this country.
"The answer will not be that some guy influenced her to do so. It will be because she likes the way they look." Is this not an example of precisely what you are criticising? They don't need you to answer for them. They're grown women, not little children, after all.

Well in that case I bet he can't sleep after a pizza, as the amount of naturally occurring MSG in the cheese on a single pizza is way more than what you'd get from a regular Chinese takeaway.

No

I'm answering for you, not them. I'm not explaining this to them. I'm explaining it to you. You appear paternalistic, thinking these women aren't empowered choose their own shoes.
As I said, Hayley Holt wears sneakers without issue from management.

Tell him it counteracts the side effects of 5G and he'll be gobbling it by the spoonful.
Classic case of single case, confirmation bias augmented aversion I'd say. Had a Chinese takeaway, couldn't sleep, subsequently heard half a snippet from someone about msg, and instantly formed a concrete opinion.

MSG has been decried as evil for decades. I recall it being talked about when I was a kid, and that was some time ago now.
The fact it was disproven is only really becoming more public relatively recently.
