While perusing this thread, I was reminded about how much it annoys me that all V/Mail commands are different (i.e. press 1 for this, 2 for that, 3 to delete etc)

My personal phone is ingrained in my soul. I automagically press the right combo for what I want - usually to delete the v/mail message after I have listened to it.

My work phone from another carrier is different and I now have 112 saved messages. grrrr

Ummmm... this isn't allowed to happen in NZ.

People can't congregate outside a courtroom be it a street or the waiting area?

You think people shouldn't be allowed to gather together? Even in the street? The specific anti-social behaviour that was described in the article *isn't* allowed in NZ. Hence the police were involved in stopping it.

Right... because they're a loss-leader to pull you into the casino.

We go in with $20 each and when that is all gone we leave. We don't gamble as such, we spent more money shopping in Vegas for the grandkids.

Sorry, I should have said "punters" rather than "you". For every "you", I'm sure there's a punter who loses significant money.

I wonder how good a show you'd see if you added your $20 to the ticket price.

I find people who leave voicemail messages annoying. Send a text or email like a decent human being! I've had my work mobile for over 15 years and if I have received a quarter of 112 VMs on it over that time I would be shocked.

If you call me and I don't/can't answer, I will see a missed call notification. If you have something I need to know, txt it, email it, IM it, send a carrier pigeon, send up smoke signals, hire Bugs Bunny to deliver a telegram, commit it to microfilm and stick it under a postage stamp on a letter to me, tattoo it on a henchman's shaved head grow his hair back and smuggle him over the border to me... only when and if all of these methods have been tried and failed, then, only then, may you leave me a voicemail. Which I will listen to sometime in the next 3-12 weeks, when I get around to it.

I may or may not have issues with voice calling after serving in the helldesk front lines for several years around the turn of the millennium.

My recorded voice message says please don’t leave a voice message as I won’t listen to it. Please send a txt instead.

And yet the idiots still tell you they left you several messages and wonder why they never heard from you.

And what is worse is when you provide a company multiple ways of contacting you and you've told them on a routine basis that you cannot answer the phone yet they still insist on ringing up. Many times I don't blame the operator given that many businesses fail to provide their employees with a means to text message or sending an email instead of phoning. Reminds me of WINZ back when it was merged - provided 5 different forms of contact but nope, they had to send a letter via mail because emailing me would make too much sense.

Behodar:

Skinny voicemail. "This message was received... today... 8... March... two... thousand... and... twenty... three..."

What's wrong with just "today"?

Because it's about as useful as someone replying "right here" when you ask them, e.g. over a phonecall, where they are.

And that leads to the real annoy, the total brain rot that's taken hold among, mostly, web devs (I assume it's some standard web library that does that) which dates posts with "eighteen hours ago", "three days ago", "two thousand three hundred and fifty-six days ago", that last one is real, not made up for effect. It makes it impossible to date posts, or to compare them for recency (twenty posts all dated "five days ago"), or place any post in time (let's see, was two hundred and six days ago before the event happened, during, after, ...?).

After the even bigger brain rot of indicating any kind of error as "something went wrong" (really? You don't say! I'd never have guessed that from the otherwise blank screen with the stuck progress bar on it), this has to be the second biggest brain rot out there.

Edited to add: Oh, and the poster child for how moronic this is is Vodafone telling you that your prepay roaming runs out at midnight tonight. By definition you're not in the NZ time zone so telling you that it runs out at some time that could be at any random point from about twelve hours ago (the longest standard international flight during which you won't get updates) to about 24 hours in the future is totally useless. They may as well just say "Your prepay roaming runs out in the next day or so, or may already have run out, and you'll be charged $10/minute every time you pick up your phone. Are you feeling lucky?".

So you’ve dealt with TSB?

It’s even better when they call you at 3am even though it’s on your account you live overseas in a time zone with 9 hours difference.

Don't even get me started on companies for whom it's an unknowable mystery how anyone could possibly be in a different time zone. Especially sales droids at American companies.

Oh gawd, yes! And recruiters and the like, everywhere in earth is CDT isn't it? Oh, it's 3am there... I didn't know Noo Zeeland had different time zones. While I've got you on the phone though, have you heard about...

This is why I have the phone on silent from 11:30pm till mid-morning.

"To listen to the next message, press 1. To delete it, press 2."

Why would I want to delete it if I don't know what it says? But pressing 2 actually deletes the current message.

And they read out the number, which you see in the missed call or vm text! So long winded.

It’s why my phone is on silent 24x7. When I’m awake I get notifications on my watch, when it’s not on ignorance is bliss.

My phone is set to quiet from 8pm to 8am. Only people in a select list can bypass this. A very small list.
