I have a subscription to a website, and I've added a couple of extras which have one-off payments attached. If I try to cancel the subscription it says "this cannot be undone".

Presumably I could "undo" it by resuming my subscription, but then will it be treated as a new subscription and would the one-offs disappear? When I first bought them they said they were a one-off payment but the cancellation message is unclear.

Why, oh why can't people write clear messages?

There's also a sign at the local Briscoes that says "EFTPOS only at this till" on one of the two tills. Does it mean EFTPOS is only available at that till, or does it mean that that till only has EFTPOS?

That there isn't a super quick, super easy to way to move all the data from 1 SSD to a new SSD and all the data from a 2nd SSD to the 1st SSD.

dd ?

DD and other tools cant swap the content on drives over, so when I wanted to move my OS to a larger NVME drive and the steam library off to the slower one, I had to involve a 3rd drive as a placeholder between them.

Azure, specifically taking an image of a VM.

It helpfully warns you that "⚠️ Capturing a virtual machine image will make the virtual machine unusable. This action cannot be undone.". 😬😮

Depending on what options you select, this warning disappears. Normally, when a GUI removes a warning, it means that the warning no longer applies. Not so, in this case. This is first-year student interface design stuff.

It probably means that it will pause the VM to take a snapshot for backup. It also means they have some people who have no idea what they are doing when writing status messages.

No to the first... for some reason, capturing an image of a VM in Azure is not taking a copy of the machine and its settings. It stops the VM, and "generalises" it to an image. As per the warning, the VM no longer exists, only its image. The image needs to be instantiated (including setting its hostname, etc) to be able to run it.

Yes to your second point.

Pointless airport procedures.

1) Arrive at security.
2) Man checks boarding pass
3) Walk 10 steps to Tube style gate that… scans boarding pass to admit to security
4) Walk 10 steps. Passport officer checks boarding pass
5) Arrive at gate. Man checks boarding pass
6) Walk 10 steps. Airline staff check boarding pass
7) Take escalator down to gate
8) Man checks boarding pass again.

Seven boarding pass checks, 3 of which are airside and after four boarding pass checks.

Then

1) Boarding called
2) Boarding pass checked
3) Walk down air bridge
4) Crew check boarding pass….

I get that these things need checking but can’t help but feel that’s taking the Michael a bit.

The trend that seems to be developing for people to watch content in public without headphones.

We don’t all want to hear it….

Some of it is Security Theatre, but the last two checks are not security related at all:
  2) is to stop the passenger getting on the wrong plane, they're mostly looking at the flight number; and
  4) is to direct the passenger to the right part of the plane - they're really only looking at your seat number.

Mighty Ape price match. They have the Chromecast 4K version for $99, found it online for $90. They declined the price match but offered me the hot price of $98 instead.

The HD version they have for $59 and lowest I found it was $57 at Harvey Norman so I submitted that just for a laugh and they flat out declined it within 5 minutes. Even if they'd matched it, with shipping it wouldn't have been worth it over just going to a Harvey Norman store. Been a long time since I've managed to get a worthwhile price match out of Mighty Ape.

I've had very mixed results with price match at MA. It used to be excellent.

Having said that, their customer service and make it right attitude has been excellent, a concern I had when Kogan bought them, that hasn't eventuated.

The inability of so many diesel drivers to actually switch off their engines when parked. On the phone, leave it running. coach picking up passengers for 20 min, leave it running, delivering, I dunno, something that takes 15 min, pollute a bit more...

Someone I know had a few occasions where it came up with something about the DPF, and from experience they knew if they stopped it then it would run like junk when they restarted it till it had done its thing.

Yeah, I think I'll end up backing up to a third. I don't mind the use of a third, I wish I didn't have to do the physical swap over etc. I need a drive swap fairy.

If I want to make a bank transfer, I can't log into my account because the authentication app has been auto-updated incorrectly (app s/w bug) and I now have to request completely new supersecure credentials. Naturally via a menu within the inaccessible account. This is exactly what the world needs. Supersecure self-locking accounts. 👏
