Behodar:

Good grief.

Page title, as shown in Google results: "[Thing] release date officially announced".

The actual heading, once you open the page: "[Thing] gets an official release window".

This is followed by nine paragraphs of waffle, for paragraph ten to finally say "slated for a release towards the end of the 2024. An exact date hasn't been provided". This is followed with another four paragraphs of rubbish.

It's what passes for content on many sites.

I follow the Ukraine war so google leads me to articles with titles like 'SU34 gets hammered on the Eastern Front'. The article contains one sentence about an SU34 that may (or may not) have been shot down two weeks ago and then screeds and screeds of information about the engines, date of first introduction etc etc which is all cut and paste from the previous SU34 article.

Very annoying.

You are right. Suppression should exist for everyone regardless.

When people blatantly ignore 'No Smoking' signs. (But he was wearing a Mongrel Mob patch so I didn't tell him off, instead I came here to whine about it.)

Rotorua Hospital have signs everywhere saying the whole grounds are smoke free, they are hard to see because all the people standing and sitting in front of them smoking. In fact walking to the main entrance is a problem if you dont smoke as you have to walk past people blowing smoke into your face.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I just received a text message from Air NZ informing me that a flight booked for tomorrow morning has been canceled.

No problem, I did the change online very quickly.

But I can't check in online now. Check-in is only available at the airport after changes.

Why?

Distracted drivers using the phone while driving!!! I have had two close calls recently with following driver not paying attention. One was a slow truck going down hill, saw guy coming fast behind and flashed by brakes. He snaked all over the road behind me! And next was a bad truck driver who decided to pull out in front of cars close to the start of a passing lane, causing slow down, and again following car was not reading the room, and snaked over the road under heavy braking.

Bloody hell put your phone down, it can wait.

When I am stuck in the slowness of the queue for the onramp lights, and have the car on autopilot so i can have a good look around there are so many people with their phone in the dash holder with tiktok or youtube on it watching things and flipping thru them. See heavy braking and the resulting hazard flashes most weeks in the queue at the bottom of the harbour bridge where people move lanes infront of other people at the last minute because they think that one side of the divide is going faster than the other. Lots of crap driving in "rush" hour.

var convertedDate = TimeZoneInfo.ConvertTimeToUtc(originalDate, TimeZoneInfo.FindSystemTimeZoneById("New Zealand Standard Time"));

It would be really nice if this line - which looks like it would convert from NZST to UTC - would convert from NZST to UTC.

What does it actually do? Converts from NZST to UTC in winter, and from NZDT to UTC in summer.

Similar reason as to why the cancelled (due to weather) return leg of an WLG-AKL showed as having a credit, but I could never access it?

Some AirNZ processes leave me puzzled.

Car woes.

Eldest son had his car serviced and repaired a few weeks ago. Cost him an arm and a leg. He's OK with that - was expected.

Yesterday, it then started missing gears. It's a 7 speed auto and only changed into even numbers.
It's now been towed to a transmission specialist, where the diagnosis will be completed. Could be anything from a couple of hundred to a few thousand dollars to fix, apparently. We'll know later today.

allan: Some AirNZ processes leave me puzzled.

Last time I talked to someone about this AirNZ was still running some software first written in IBM 360 assembly language in 1968 (alongside banks, insurance companies, the government, ...).  It's conceivable that this wasn't designed for the sorts of things people want to do with it today.

Found out a recent quote to upgrade some in-house software for a customer has been accepted. I'm a little surprised because this customer has asked for several quotes over the years and I thought this might be another EOFY tyre-kicking  exercise.

The software needs improvement and that's always interesting to do. Downside is now I've got 3 number 1 priority jobs !

Trying to purchase something on TradeMe from an Auckland based seller but find I can't purchase it as I've been blacklisted by the seller.

I can't ever recall doing any trades with this seller and I've never ever withdrawn from a trade so unsure why I've ended up on sellers blacklist. I have 100% positive feedback.

Ended up buying from Wellington based seller who strangely enough has same username as Auckland seller but with "wgtn" appended to the end. Cost extra $1 overall for item to be sent to me in Auckland.
