I know its been said before (many times) but just need to vent...

Home all morning. Leave the house for ~20 minutes. Come home to find the card to call under the doormat. I swear, it's like they wait for me to leave before swooping.

I have set alternative delivery locations in the vicinity as the ‘default’ for us (e.g. Packstation, post office, my office, kiosk, small shops - I don't want to inconvenience any neighbours either). You can use the app to set the days on which you want the parcel to be delivered to a specific location. I then collect them during business hours or, in the case of the Packstation, stress-free 24/7 within a week.

Parcels cannot simply be left somewhere and marked as delivered without consent. A service once did this and the parcel disappeared from the front door with a supposedly scribbled signature that I never gave. Unfortunately, my general digital consent was missing and so, after I submitted an affidavit stating that I didn't have the parcel, the service had to pay for the damage of almost €8,000.

- NET: FTTH, OPNsense, 10G backbone, GWN APs, ipPBX
- SRV: 12 RU HA server cluster, 0.1 PB storage on premise
- IoT:   thread, zigbee, tasmota, BidCoS, LoRa, WX suite, IR
- 3D:    two 3D printers, 3D scanner, CNC router, laser cutter

It's  web site where font size shouldn't matter! And still the legalese font above the red line is minuscule compared to the normal font of "I agree ..."

Adding to the seemingly endless list of things that annoy me at the moment...

On the bus on Saturday, heading to the big football game and a child snatched my glasses off my face and snapped them while I watched (albeit blurrily).

The mother (who social media leads me to believe is used to seeing this happenb) immediately screamed "Don't touch him!", as they fled to try and get off the bus as quickly as possible.

I managed to get their details, thanks to the bus driver who helpfully stopped the bus after they got off and allowed me to pursue them and take photos of them and get their contacts.

It appears they are serial offenders.

What annoys me, is this is the umpteenth thing that has happened which will cost us money just before Christmas and I am frankly over it. It'll also take forever to get new glasses at this time of year.
Thankfully I have a spare pair with my old prescription, so the headaches will only be minor.

And yes - I filed a police report and claimed on insurance.

Well, at least now they can't see either!

(I'll show myself out...)

Seriously though, that's appalling behaviour and I'm glad that you've gone to the police.

That sucks and not much the police can do if it’s a child either. Surely after such a bad run things will only improve.

"Smile and be happy, things could get worse. So, I smiled and was happy, and behold, things did get worse."

Hopefully it is not the above. All the best for Christmas.

There does seem to be a lot of bad reports these days about antisocial and criminal behaviour on public transport. And when it is minors there seems to be no sanction or penalty - particularly from the parents - and the police are powerless.

If they're not exotic progressive/multifocals, can you get by for now with $5 Warehouse/supermarket ones even if the lenses only match one eye?  I keep a bunch of $5 ones in various places (travel bags, etc) just in case something happens to my prescription ones.

Even with more exotic ones, you can get custom (as in non-one-size-fits-all) ones from China for a fraction of what you'd pay here, e.g. Zenottic off Ali if you want to pay for premium stuff but even less for generics.

There in lies the root of the problem. He's never been disciplined nor made to respect others and their property.

The mother (parents) needs sorting out as much as he does.

I think I may have suffered temporary deafness and done my best to regain possession of my glasses while also "accidentally " administering some subtle corporal punishment.

As well as getting my glasses I'd see my actions as a valuable public service. He would be more hesitant in the future if he knows someone might fight back.

If I were a bystander, in the right conditions with regard to my safety and of those around me, I'd stop the little shit and make him return the glasses broken or not. These types of people get away with this sort of thing because everyone stands back.

They're precisely this.
They are $1500 "tick every box, please" glasses.

The good news is, the replacements will be ready on 23rd December, so I only have to put up with my old prescription from 3 years ago for 2 weeks.

The bad news is, my frames (which I loved) have been discontinued and when Specsavers showed me all of the like-for-like replacements, I was going to have to stump up a premium above my insurance excess, due to the fact that when I got them they were on sale, so the "replacement cost" is the discounted cost, not the actual retail cost.

I have had to compromise and get frames that I am not 100% happy with, all because of that little toerag on the bus.

If I believed in Karma, I would assume that I had been very bad indeed in a previous life.

Yeah it's a tricky one especially when cameras are essentially in everyone's hands. Reminds me of when I was on my gap year in a small private school (I was 18) and I'd have to look after the kids whose parents would pick them at 5pm or something. In winter (actually always seemed like winter) they'd just play indoor soccer in the gym. There was a good player who was also a smart arse and was tormenting, how do I put it, a much more round and slower kid. One day the smart arse came running up to hide behind me as he'd said something stupid yet again to the round kid. Only I grabbed the smart arse's arms and held him from running away. The big kid ran in and punched him as hard as he could in the stomach and knocked all the wind out of him. I was mortified and thought he wasn't going to breathe again. Smart arse got his wind back eventually, and you know what, he never did it again. But I thought I'd be packing my bags!

It produced the outcome that was needed at the time didn't it? Right action at the right time I'd say. You don't always get to choose the time and have to take an opportunity when it is presented.

Dare I say it may well have been a life long attutude changing moment for the smart arse improving his character and attitude to his benefit in later life.

Was there any indication of the perps' social class? Bad enough if the mother is a gang type, even worse if the mother happens to be a posh Karen.
