Holy crap. I just looked up Dualit Toasters. At that price you would expect them to last generations.

And bake + self-insert the bread!

And you wouldn't throw one of those in a bath with someone you hate.

If it means I am not getting a crap $40 one every few years when it stops holding down, or the rubbish finish on it starts to flake off etc then it would probably not be a bad idea, but not right now I dont think.

My toaster.

Undercooks. Burns. One side pale the other burnt. Doesn't pop up.

I dont think I've ever owned a toaster that did what it said on the box.

Buy a Dualit.

Not only will it make the best toast ever, but also it will last long enough to go in your will.

You're applying 'Kiwi Logic'. It makes more sense this way:

1) Buy a single Dualit toaster for $500 when you are 25. Make toast in it until you are 75 and you die. Cost per annum $10 (and saves electricity because each slot can be turned on or off as needed) plus a classic design item in your kitchen that makes the best toast ever. Leave toaster to children to do the same.

 or

2) Buy useless Zip, Kambrook, Russell Hobbs for $30 every 2 years for the same 50 years. Cost $750 or $15 a year, worse toast, ugly toaster, frustration and excess landfill from 25 toasters.

wink

I've got a dualit myself, but purchased when they were a lot cheaper. They do last  and last however the replacement elements for them are pricey, especially if you buy in NZ. Cheaper to buy from the UK.
The same however couldn't be said for their kettles, which I had two fail in a row, and not as long as cheaper ones, and ended up getting a refund. The best kettles were those old Russell hob ones , last one last 30 + years, and infact still goes today. Just looks dated.

Been penalised by my bank for making a deposit on a weekend. Admittedly it's documented in the terms and conditions (page 26 of 28) but sigh...

After only ever having free personal banking in the UK, it still pains me to pay for it.

It pains me even more when I pay for it and see the bank waste millions sponsoring a ball game team.

What pains me more is seeing Universities sponsoring ball game teams.

Dont get a kambrook. Slowest thing ever. So slow. Ive finished my coffee before toast is done.

Surely toasting time is a function of the bread composition? Heating faster than X will just burn it? Heating slower than X won't caramelise the surface?

Plumbers that will "be there after 2.30" that turn up at 6pm... with the basin that was faulty, so they go back and get the proper one and really arrive at 7.10 on a friday night.

To be fair, this probably wasn't what the plumber himself had planned on.

Dropping my phone in the street today and shattering the screen. Went into a phone repair shop and was told $200 for a new screen, but it's not a high end phone (Nokia Lumia 735) and cost under $300 about 2 years ago so not worth spending that much on it now. Timing could have been better - trying to find somewhere to live at the moment as we have to be out of our rental next month so can't really shell out on a new phone at the moment. Still seems usable so just have to put up with it for now, or go back to the basic old $29 thing I've got lying around at home somewhere.
