I have to use office 2007 at current day job. Its horrible. word is a redundant piece of crap nowdays IMO that noone writes letters.

Word is my second most used programme (after excel).  Still gets used for report writing, contracts etc.  It's the worst word processor there is - apart from all the others.

Finding the end of the Glad Wrap when it has fallen back into the dispenser and the edge / end is not visible!

Aaarrrrrggggghhhh!!!

Same problem but with sellotape.

Top Tip: Fold the last cm of adhesive tape back onto itself so it can't adhere back onto the roll .... tongue-out

Sometimes the same with a new roll of loo paper - finding the start where it's been glued down and starting it without ripping into the body of the roll.

People who ask you one thing and you confirm this is in the queue to be done, then he goes and asks someone else in your team for the same thing.

Open floor spaces with hot desks and people forcing you to more around.

Hot desking is an accountants dream but a health and safety nightmare and a team builders worst nightmare

When I mentioned we have a Netflix and Amazon Prime subscriptions to someone and got a "Why? I thought you being a techie guy would have all the content you wanted, for free?" retort.

Well, exactly because I am a techie guy and know how much it costs to write, produce, distribute digital content I am paying for it.

And now we're back to page 1 of the thread :)

MikeB4: The recent trend manufactures of toilet paper have started, gluing the start of the roll.... why for goodness sake, why?

I once worked with an assistant who had to prepare or update simple spreadsheets. After working with her for a while I was astounded to see that she added up, on a calculator, all the values in a column and typed the sum into the bottom cell. I kid you not.

I worked for a South African Engineering Project Manager in 2003 who did exactly that too. It's been a running joke between those of us that were on the project, and remain friends, ever since - it inevitably comes up in conversation whenever we meet.

Mouse Pads.

I hate them with a passion taking up room on a desk, however I need to use one now as the desk I'v inherited at work is highly polished and my mouse is struggling.

Desks that are not compatible with optical mice.

Marketing gimmicks. I just saw a thing about how I "need" to buy an "HDR-capable" 4k TV, with a comparison image showing "here's what it's like on a non-HDR TV, and here it is with HDR". The HDR version looked noticeably better. Of course, if my current/inferior system doesn't support HDR then both images should've looked the same!

  • I once received a bug report with an attached PDF. The PDF was a scan of a printout of a screenshot of an Outlook window with a screenshot of the error message inside it. In other words, the customer's thought process apparently went "I'll take a screenshot of the error, paste it into Outlook, take a screenshot of that, paste it into Word, print it, scan it, then email the PDF". It boggles the mind...

Some time ago I installed SNAGIT on a colleague's computer so he can send me screenshots. He'd been using it fairly well but lately started sending the screenshot as a .SNAG format file by dragging and dropping it into Viber Desktop, which sends it as an attachment not an inline image, instead of simply pasting the clipboard content into the chat text box. I had to explain you can't view a .SNAG format file on a phone so doing so takes away that functionality benefit. He discovered how to do it on his own and abandoned the more functional method I'd shown him and he'd been using for a couple of years.

He also emails himself links to things of interest even though I've set him up as a paid user of XMARKS and his devices sync all the bookmarks across all the browsers and with the XMARKS app on his phone.

Geektastic:

An Americanism you hear in restaurants:

Waiter: What would you like to order?

Customer: Can I get the soup?

(in my head)

Yes, you can. Indeed, you can get anything on the menu. Now, what would you like?

Which brings me to one of mine. You can't get the soup, but you can have the soup.

1992. First visit to the USA (Philadelphia) and the accent was kind of strong.

Waiter: "Do you want the soup or salad?"

Me: "Yes, the super salad would be great, thanks"
