Geektastic: That our neighbour, a Doctor who moved here from the UK, can't get back to the UK to attend the funeral of her mother who died last week.

Covid is a PITA.

Not if you live in Australia. My son in law has left to see his dying father in the UK. Arranged it in four days. Still flying so hope he makes it in time. Gutted grandchild and daughter NZ citizens will spend Christmas alone and can’t come home.

Having to delete endless emails from businesses I dealt with once only wishing me a happy Christmas as if the check box marketing missive is in any way a genuine communication.

That New World makes a half-baked, chewy, tasteless "petit baguette":

That in no shape or taste is a baguette:

Baguettes here rarely taste authentic. Usually too airy and they don't use French flour which is a bit different. The French Baker in Greytown isn't bad but the supermarket ones aren't great.

Really good, fresh baguette is good enough to eat by itself! Especially when you cycled to the Boulangerie at 7am to get them still warm🥰

We spent three months in France a few years ago. The very best single thing about France is the daily fresh baguette. Govt regulated as to size and price - from any boulangerie at lunchtime with cheese, ham, no butter - outstanding. It’s so good you want to eat it even on its own. Damn this COVID.

We make our own. I hate the shop sourced ones they often have chewy crusts.

Chewy crusts are the worst.

More bemused than annoyed... getting a spam email, followed by another one an hour later apologising for a typo in the previous one!

I'm talking about actual spam, not just marketing fluff from a company. The sort of thing you have no connection with, and no trustworthy unsubscribe link.

I'm picturing a baguette standing next to a ciabatta, with an older baguette holding a shotgun in the background.

It's missing one important element for a typically French image:

That this Krampus badge looks like an unguided alien from Mars instead of the devil himself. ;-) The pole is ok.👍

Oh, it's a pole! I was wondering why the board had become non-G-rated, but it's just a pole.
