If Trump were to be President the rest of the world would return to doing what they did when Bush was in the White House: work around the US in alternative groupings. The EU would resume a more leading role as others looked to it for sanity and stability. Russia / China would continue their partnership (entered into when Bush was elected in 2000) and that partnership would also gather friends and perhaps even allies.  We've seen this before up to 2008.

Trump is much more aggressive and unstable than Bush, with less personal insight.

It's not the same situation as 2008.

Of course not....but the response would be similar because others have no other options but to isolate themselves as much as possible from the risks Trump imposes. IT's the same response any room full of people employs when someone in the room is too annoying to be tolerated: they ignore him as much as possible and limit - as much as possible - any engagement they can't avoid. This approach works daily and scales from creches to global leaders summits.

Donald is still in the creche ...  wink

This comment was left by someone (meaningless user name) on the Herald site. It was interesting to me because (a) the writer says that they are a NZer so probably grew up amongst the somewhat left leaning views prevalent here and (b) because the person actually lives there (they say so, anyway) and that always gives you a different perspective to just digesting the news and basing your views on the churnalism.

"I am a kiwi who has lived in the States for 5 years. The U.S.A. is in complete chaos. Obama has done nothing for the economy, nothing for growth, nothing for race relations, nothing to secure the borders.

The employment figures you read are absolutely false. If you have been out of work for 6 months or more in the States, you are not included in the unemployment figures. There are millions in that position.

Obama is not a business person. Obama Healthcare is a complete disaster. Its killing many businesses. If Hillary gets in you will just get more of the same. Absolutely nothing will get done. Everyone I speak too is absolutely fed up, esp. business people. Trump is the only one who will bring significant change for the better.

Whether you like Trump's manner or not, he is an extremely hard worker and a smart businessman. He (and his team) will work so hard for the American people. Also, he never inherited 200 million. That figure is completely false. A lot of what is being written about Trump is absolutely not true. The U.S.A. is heading towards the cliff at a rapid rate. There is no one better than a strong businessman to take on the complete mess that Obama has left."

Well, I agree with that part at least. As to the matter of Obama not being a businessman - well, "businessmen" are responsible for the GFC, so let's not weigh that too heavily against him. On the other hand he greatly expanded the extralegal drone assassination program and gagged or prosecuted more journalists for exposing government misbehaviour than anyone else, so he's certainly not an all-round good guy.

But Trump isn't going to stop them falling off the cliff. He's going to bring in the demolitions experts to blow up what's left of the mountain while he sprints towards the edge.

Geektastic - That was posted by someone from Trumps campaign. All the candidates have people who troll the media and web posting positive comments.

I haven't looked at the Herald site, but am interested in how you know the comment is from someone in Drumpf's camp? Why would they bother trolling the New Zealand Herald web site, in the lead-up to Super Tuesday?

One thing I was thinking about last night...  if people are complaining about how New Zealand is losing out in the TPPA, imagine what trade deals will look like with The Don in the White House.

What always gets me is the politicians loyalty to the party first, as exemplified by Marco Rubio's tweet:

.@ScottRigell says if Trump is the nominee, "the harm done to our party would be nothing short of catastrophic."http://rub.io/zqCnmN

The harm done to his party. Not the harm done to America, or the world. The harm done to his party.

Not just him, of course - all politicians are beholden to their party. But I find this attitude illuminating. It reminds you who they're working for - hint: not you.

My take on The Anthem under Trump, Obama, Clinton, Bush, Bush.....

O say can you see,

Our debt shinning bright,

and proudly we spend

By night and by day,

The debt mountain climbs,

Through dark and by light,

Although we are broke,

We gallantly spend on,

And the red letter glare,

And our business die there,

Our debt was still there.

O say does that bank statement yet wave

Over land of the free

And the home of the broke.

I obviously don't know for sure. I should have added the word possibly.

As for why they would do it, simply to drum up support from Americans living in NZ for when he gets the nomination. I would think that the motto would be 'every vote counts' especially after the closeness of the Bush election.

The over the top criticism of Obama and the glowing support for Trump just doesn't sound like a Kiwi to me.

Debt is not so much of a problem when you are spending it on something useful. Unfortunately in the American system public debt seems to get converted into cash in private hands very quickly.

Everyone has an opinion. This is just another one. My stepson is a Kiwi who has lived and worked in America for many years. He doesn't adore Obama by any means, but he is convinced anyone else would be far worse by many degrees of magnitude. He has an opinion. I have an opinion. the Herald commentator has an opinion. We all have opinions. So what? You are going to listen to the opinion that matches your own prejudices.

Public debt is spending future generations wealth now. At some time the ferryman must be paid, he wont be paid now  but by several generations hence.

Yeah, let's hear it for all those 'businessmen' who started Great Depression #1 and nearly started #2 in their pursuit of greed. I bet a lot of those bankers were Drumph's buddies.

Yes - you can see equal amounts of FUD being created in the UK by the pro-EU camp.
