On NZ Herald: "Story behind iconic Prince Andrew photo with Virginia Giuffre"

The photo is not iconic. It's evidence but doesn't make it iconic. An iconic photo is culturally important. This isn't.

"Iconoclastic" kind of works (I hope).

i·con·o·clas·tic | īˌkänəˈklastik | adjective - characterized by attack on cherished beliefs or institutions: a fresh, even an iconoclastic, influence could work wonders.

I do not think that Epstein's or Prince Andrew's involvement is a "cherished belief or institution" far from it plus their "influence could work wonders" only as far as the broader awareness of the #MeToo movement.

Here we have a fine headline on the World section. Many significant and newsworthy events happening in the world today. What does the Herald go with?

"Thousands of penis-fish cover beach"

Not with you, not with me, but you'd have to do a lot of arguing to convince me that fans of the royals don't have a cherished belief in the institution.

On the other hand, they've been behaving as badly or (much) worse for many centuries, but many of the commoners still love them.

You know you really should provide a clickable link.  I'm not typing that in my search bar.

Are these the Amazonian ones that purportedly swim up your urethra and eat your tackle from the inside out if you do a nudie swim, or something else I'd probably not want to see or experience?

Edit: Oh - I found it.  Fascinating - and they're edible.  You could do a mixed plate with certain other seafood, and call it an orgy.

Yes, I guess you could! Don't forget to photograph that for us to see when you do it...! 🤣

The "cherished institution" in this case is clearly monarchy. And I therefore hope that the photo could "work wonders".

In NZ Herald today:

Trio get lengthy jail sentences for South Island's biggest-ever meth bust

Where journalist Kurt Bayer displays an amazing ineptitude for simple maths:

"Officers found 20 separate boxes, each with 1.1-1.2kg of 80 per cent pure methamphetamine, totalling 39.7kg."

I've been a magazine editor. I struggle to believe the ridiculous lack of accuracy in reporting these days. The above example isn't just a contradiction of itself in the same article - it's in the same sentence! The maths is not even difficult. *sigh*

Spotted in one of the White Island stories:

White Island eruption: Newlyweds tell of crucial decision in 10-minute escape

"It is understood Lauren is sedated in Auckland's Middlemore Hospital and still incubated ahead of more required surgery."

What happens when non medically trained writers write about medical stuff 🙄

There's a photo showing the haul in 40 sealed bags containing what looks like foil wrapped packs - not boxes, but 48 x 80% is still under 39.7. It's a mystery, I hope we shouldn't need to watch re-runs of "The Wire" to find clues to the truth.

The trial and probable execution by media of Ron Brierley:

I haven't read the article.  What he's been arrested for is heinous - and if he's convicted then good reason for public condemnation at the appropriate time.  Doing a hatchet job on him before he's been to trial isn't fair or reasonable.

Warning: not safe for work, Rough language

This isn't a newspaper article, but a funny review by Kiwi David Farrier. He's the journalist who did Netflix specials "Dark Tourist"

His review of the movie Cats is brutal.

On Stuff:

"Ariana Grande is trying to hook her BFF up with A$AP Rocky"

I really have no idea what this garbage means, other than it's some kind of celebrity crap.

NZHerald!

Apart from the obvious error below, it is worth seeing the photo of the Firey with a Koala watching the approaching fire from the road.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=12296118

"The photo, released by the Eden Hills Country Fore Service, "

What the hell is a "Fore Service"???

Geez, they can't even proof read, or even just read to check the basics!
