Harps on about how great this guy is for solving a problem. Doesn't tell you anything at all about what the problem is or how he solved it.

Hey - they didn't even give his full name in the article - J. Pablo Bonilla Ataides.

Read all about it:

I think I've spotted an error - when Sheldon gets back from the comic store I'll ask him to take a look.

From the Wairarapa Times Age;

Headline: Dog registrations set to climb

First para: Dog registration fees in Masterton are proposed to increase an average of 26 per cent.

So nothing - at all - to do with registering a greater number of dogs, which is what the headline means.

Terrible phrasing from the NZ Herald in an article about a factually incorrect rant by a UK opinion columnist in a UK news paper. I'm not sure why they bothered.

NZHerald New Zealand maintained the operation of its spy satellites to supply the alliance with intelligence during the 30-year rift with the United States and nuclear policy - and despite New Zealand's suspension from the Anzus security alliance.

New Zealand does not have spy satellites.

I assume the Herald article meant "its spy satellite bases".

Promoting "values and rights" may be what the Russian FSB and Chinese MSS do, it shouldn't be what our spy agencies do.

A Stuff special: the heading is about lower-income earners but the stroy is about middle-income earners.

“Private security company Cityguard has admitted its staff photograph children in public spaces as well as anyone else involved in incidents they intervene in while on patrol.”

Which is perfectly legal and therefore not a story at all....

I suppose that depends on your point of view!

However I have to agree with the main thrust of the story even though the headline is a bit askew.

A Geekzone post where the subject is a news headline in English but that breaks into Russian in the middle (строй = stroy = order or arrangement).

From The Press (Stuff): https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/124993836/bigger-workload-and-misjudgement-delays-chlorine-removal-from-christchurch-water

....

The number of homes that can access chlorine-free water changes based on demand, but generally it is between 20 and 30 per cent.

The remaining two-thirds of the city will continue to have chlorine-free water because two unacceptable risks, identified in the safety plan, need to be addressed first. The risks are reservoir contamination and inadequate backflow prevention.

.....

How does that work?

(Yes I did ring the CCC who agree that it is wrong, and will try and get it fixed! Wonder how long it will take?)

An incredible percentage of the few Stuff writers they have left obviously don't bother reading what they publish!

Stuff this morning:

This could have been a really really funny headline fit for "The Civilian", except it's very poorly worded and the article reports some kind of a tragedy.  Bad taste - whether deliberate or accidental.

It is almost certainly accidental - which makes it worse. Stuff needs to spend less time begging for money and more time learning about journalism.

“Cricket 'unable' to ban convicted sex offender Jason Trembath from playing” - Stuff.

Cricket is a game. It can’t actually do anything. At all.
