NZH today:

”Heather du Plessis-Allan announced [on air] that she is expecting her first child in October.”

Talk about counting your chickens - that’s eleven months away.

Turns out that what NZH meant was “In October, Heather du Plessis-Allan announced she is expecting her first child”.

Headline: "Inside New Zealand's new cliffside adults-only retreat"

I love secrets. And one of the country's newest adults-only retreats has a big one hidden behind the TV. Push it and something magical happens. I will tell you about that in a second.

I will save you a click: it starts an outdoor heated bathtub.

That's just silly. Of course you'll get burglarized if you leave your doors open.

All businesses close their doors to avoid burglarizers.

Only North America. Here in NZ, you’d be burglarised and you’d close your doors to avoid burglars.

15,000 firefighters unvaccinated

More than 15,000 firefighters remain unvaccinated as a government deadline looms on Monday.

Fire and Emergency said it was confident the vast majority of brigades and communities would not be affected by staffing losses when the vaccine mandate comes in.

Thirteen percent of the country's 13,000 volunteer firefighters are unvaccinated, and 6 percent of the 2000 paid staff.

When I learnt maths, 13% of 13,000 + 6% of 2,000 came to 1,810, not 15,000. How can more than 15,000 firefighters be unvaccinated when there are only 15,000 in total?

... and now I know the best takeaways to have in various parts of Australia - New Zealand doesn't even get mentioned in the article.

Maybe one day in 2025, I'll get there to try some of them.  Before then, what's even the point of publishing this article?

Back to their old tricks of serving up Australian content as if it were New Zealand content.

neb: While people are nitpicking typos in papers, I should point out that one of the finest news sources I now of, the Guardian, was once famous/notorious for typos, to the extent that it's still (affectionately) referred to as the Grauniad - try going to http://www.grauniad.co.uk. So a few typos aren't necessarily a fatal thing for news publications.

And on that topic...

Burglarised is a legit word in NZ - burglarized is not. If you want to use that word, that's how to do it - that's all I was saying.

Of course, burgled is a better word.

I love that someone thinks the Graun is a fine news source! Bless. Not a common opinion outside the left wing zealots in the UK that's for sure.

Moving on...

This struck me as... oddly worded if nothing else.

"Earlier this year, a Sydney lollipop lady boasted that she made almost A$3000 in a week in seven days"

At least the reporter knew the difference between robbed and burgled... That's a first.
