Geektastic: I’m not sure that commenting that you’ve heard a rumour constitutes peddling anything, really.

Expecting every rumour to be 100% run down as to veracity before any member of the media mentions it is probably unrealistic as a goal.

I heard from a friend, 'real' journalists call fact checking 'professionalism'.

Sean Plunket doesn't have that obligation since he's a, er, deliberately BS spreading miscreant.

For some reason the Herald saw fit to file this in the New Zealand section.

Straight from the climate change activists playbook, NIWA temperature predictions for October to December. Red, which covers most of the country, is labelled "Above or average". It's not all doom and gloom, despite what the graphic may suggest.

Clearly depends how the reference average is created and how they gate the "or" thing. I can guess but without additional details it will not be clear to anyone with a question. Even so, I'd give that the benefit of the doubt. It may not have been designed with climate change in mind at all. A link to the source could be useful.

These escalator stories make a big impression on me. Turns out they really are dangerous. Parents weren't making it up! No doubt some are badly maintained or badly installed. I'm going to notice emergency stop button locations in future.

Especially if you see someone carrying a chin-up bar (I'm sure at least one person in this thread will get that reference).

There was a graphic a bit like this of Europe used by a TV station in Europe with two maps showing the temperatures for two differing years, not sure how far apart but the later one used hotter colours insinuating the temperatures were warmer in the later of the two graphics, but if you looked at the actual temperatures several were cooler in the graphic for the later year. Hmmmm

“Man, there's not a year goes by--not a year--that I don't read about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid that could've easily been avoided had some parent--I don't care which one--but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator!”

“Both Auckland and Wellington have budget holes that need to be repaired by cutting services, reducing large-scale plans or raising rates. There will likely be a combination of both of those things.”

Herald. Can’t count.

Just a dumb choice of colours... I guess the average-to-above-average category should have been orange rather than red, similar to the left-hand image.

The people who keep clicking those headlines and complaining about it obviously don't.
