not a headline but the following sentence confused me, from the murder of Kyle Whorrall article.

"Baldwin said police were not ready to release Whorrall's name and were still contacting family overseas."

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Brings to mind "Don't tell him, Pike!"

A headline for this story in NZH today says:

Misleading on a simple reading.

In an article in NZHerald about butter prices:

New World was selling a block of Anchor 500g butter today for $12.49. That same block cost $919 on January 9.

$919!  Why are we complaining about only $12 ??  😁

Perhaps next drought/flood/natural disaster the NZ tax payer will give them 5% of what $ they get from their overseas markets as a drought subsidy.
Should round out to be...hmmm...$0

Simple solution, 6-10% of NZ made primary produce MUST be sold in NZ.

The "over supply" will keep prices lower to ensure actual consumption.

Of course we get other retailers complain about how consumers are ALSO using "international prices" to get cheaper products in from overseas. Even with GST and shipping added I get in stuff for less than the same product here in NZ.

I get to see "wholesale" prices for some stuff I buy locally and see the 400-800% markups for retail prices. Heck I even sometimes get 60% off wholesale !

Perhaps they should let their "online business editor" talk to their "business reporter" who has been writing stories about high dairy prices  like this for months now..

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/national-mp-tom-rutherford-praised-for-helping-distressed-man-on-busy-tauranga-highway/HXOT3QPRGZA5BMYZIONUBFQ6UQ/

Article in todays Herald about a man being saved at Te Puna, near Tauranga.

They need to update their stock photos. It is a good many years (about 8 years) since Te Puna looked like this.

There is a stonking big roundabout now instead of a crossroads.

That building behind the BP isnt there anymore.

The traffic however has not changed.

The "photo" in this one isn't a photo at all: it's a mock-up of what the fire station was going to look like!

This NZH story today has a totally misleading headline:

The real facts revealed in the story are that there are 24,000 mortgage accounts in arrears. The 500k relates to consumer credit accounts - a different thing.

NZH should be ashamed of themselves for all or any of their willful deceipt, sloppiness and/or ignorance.

Where is it? It takes until the fourth paragraph to learn that one end is at Ashhurst, and the twelfth paragraph to learn that it goes to Woodville.

Edit: And it's in the Politics section for some reason.

The article headline and the first few sentences are pretty clear about the location
A first look at the North Island's long-awaited new highway: The views from the lower slopes of the Ruahine Range are breathtaking, as RNZ experienced on a drive over the four-lane Te Ahu a Turanga - Manawatū Tararua Highway on Thursday. We started at the Ashhurst, Manawatū, end, beginning about where the old State Highway 3 through the Manawatū Gorge ran, before crossing the Manawatū River on the first of two viaducts, and then entering a steep climb.
