NZ Herald posts "Fresh sighting of elusive Canterbury "panther" emerge"... The photo is actually taken from an Australian video posted here.

Another reason why I pay a supporter's fee to The Guardian but not to the local rags.

The Commerce Commission  got the reason wrong for declining the merger with Fairfax (Stuff) it had nothing to do with democracy it would have seriously damaged the nations dignity.

I disagree... I think they should have merged, so that we would only have one appallingly bad news source.

"Why you won't have a phone in 2027 and other shockers."

Obviously many people are far more easily shocked than I am.

I think we should invite the BBC to tender for News Services in New Zealand as an outsourcing deal.

Other shockers in the article include reference to a car's breaks (sic). At least the Herald could do us the courtesy of putting a bio about the writer at the end of the article instead of having to resort to Mr Google to find out he is some hack living half a world away with no more qualifications to predict the future than the makers of The Jetsons .

How do cruise ships stay afloat?

Harmony of the Seas is the world's largest cruise ship. Photo / Supplied

It's the question every cruise passenger wonders about.

And the next deep and fundamental question will likely be: "What makes airplanes stay up in the air?"

I wouldn't consider that a dumb headline. Some people actually want to know.

What I consider dumb would be All Blacks win. I expect them to win. Tell me something I didn't know. Like ABs lose for example.

They are making their own news now. Hardly falls under the breaking news headline, and reminds me of the buy crying wolf.

Yes, the amount of "Breaking News" notifications are get on my phone that barely count as news, let alone breaking news is astonishing. "The Bachelor" updates are a prime example. Not that I care and I've never watched that show but perhaps a better example in relation to that show would be when something actually happened in real life, rather than when it was broadcast on TV? It mightn't be news, but at least it would be breaking.
