DarthKermit: Why Boeing 747s have humps

When Stuff can't think of anything to actually report about. undecided

Thought maybe it was for the 50th anniversary, but no, that's still two months away.

A once over lightly and full of inaccuracies (AFAIK).

So just a slow news day.

Anonymous note left in Porirua mailboxes demands residents mow their lawns

Its not on CNN or BBC yet, but it will be. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/109356650/anonymous-note-left-in-porirua-mailboxes-demands-residents-mow-lawns-weed-garden

It even got promoted to the big photo on the top left, and rightly so, its breaking news....

NZH headline today:

“Boozy police officer faces the sack after performing sex act on train“.

Steamy sex scene, anyone? That’s pretty bloody kinky. So what’s that called - machiniality? Enginality?

Anyone else noticed how many 'opinion' articles there are on the Stuff and probably the Herald website as well?   I think the answer is cost.   Here are two stories with a very rough idea on costs.

Story One.  Reporter goes to West Coast to cover some big issue - what ever.   Reporter needs a motel for at least one night, maybe two.   Reporter needs time to interview people and get some photos.  Cost of either an airfare and rental car or car and petrol costs.  Meals.   So not a huge cost to the story but $$$ for sure.

Story Two - an 'opinion piece'.   Reporter gets up, has breakfast, turns on laptop and browses a few websites for a story that could be relatable to NZ.  Choose a story with some really good photos from Reuters or some other site.  Cost of those photos not known I imagine Stuff and the Herald have a deal where it probably costs very little to re-publish a photo.   Reporter thinks of how the overseas news event could be re-hashed into a controversial NZ topic.  Story is written and submitted.    Cost of this story - whatever they pay for re-use of content and photos.

Story one requires real journalistic skills.  Story two requires lateral thinking and creative writing skills.  It's something that talented Year 10 to Year 12 students could do quite easily.

More important - which end of the train did he use?

Story one also requires that the journalist invest the time and effort to do some basic background research so they can conduct an informative interview and ask meaningful questions. (pause for laughter)

John McAfee one-upped him, as shown in the following article. Oh, did I mention he's planning on running for US president in 2020?

The following link contains strong language, adult themes.

Pronhub is well-known for their analytics.

For 2018, no surprises here for Kiwis, except when compared to worldwide statistics Kiwi females was a larger percentage than average, smart phones used less than normal, and per capita usage larger than average.

Searching for "fortnite" struck me as odd.

"New Zealand" and "Samoan" were the third and fourth most searched word among Kiwis, while "Fortnite" was the eight most searched category.

More than 100 million people around the world visit the site every day, with Kiwis the 27th largest Pornhub consumer in the world.

I too have noticed the massive increase in OPINION pieces which include pieces written by so called celebs. It is disturbing to me as many of these pieces are not balanced in the slightest.
