Watched it and it wasn't too bad. Chris Evans was rather annoying and probably trying too hard but Matt LeBlanc was pretty good.

I still miss the three idiots but shall see how things develop with the show over the season.

I think it was ironic they had Gordon Ramsey as the first guest, because I think he would have been a far better presenter than Evans. As he is far more like Clarkson. Evans was trying to be far to much like Clarkson. Evans voice is also weird, it high pitched and shouty. Shrill is probably the word to describe it. It was like he was high on something, as he was jumping around everywhere. Leblanc doesn't really have any personality, and was fine as a backup presenter. It is probably why he didn't get much critism. There is zero chemistry between the two presenters. They also have that woman presenter, but they never introduced her, she just appeared in a segment, and wasn't in the actual stage parts. I think it really needed a James May type to tie them together. May was the sort of 'Geek' , while Evans is the 'Geek' on his new show, and a 'Geek' doesn't make the best presenter for a blokey type show like this. Clarkson was really perfect for that un PC dad type who says what he really thinks while watching TV. It reminds me a bit of when they replaced Charlie Sheen on that Two and a half men show, it only last 1-2 more seasons before it died a slow death.

Also really hate what they did with the 'celebs drive an affordably priced car thing'. It is like they tried far too hard to make it better, by making it worse. It now uses a high priced mini and has offroad parts. The whole point of the old format, was that they drove the type of car that everyone could afford, and thrashed it on a track. I guess it isn't much worse than I thought it would be. But I think they should have just totally redone it for a new generation, rather than try to copy the old show. Honestly some of the car youtube shows are far better, and have presenters with more chemistry.

I'd be keen to know what car shows on youtube you are referring to?

I haven't seen the whole thing. Agree about Evans, his voice is grating. I expect once he gets the hang of it, and settles in the role, it will be less horrifying.

MLB isn't too bad, I can see him being good even. Some of the segments will need refining. I laughed out loud twice, but I also visibly cringed quite a few times.

I thought MLB commenting about beating staff behind a closed door with a stick was pretty naff, considering how the last show ended.

The bit with the 2 cars in different nations colours was excruciating and pointless and the two guests format was hideous.

I'll give it a few more weeks, if I can handle Evans, because I like car shows in general, but boy, a year to prep that...

Terry Wogan used to present the Breakfast show on Radio 2. He had about 12 million listeners, so more or less everyone of a certain age listened at some point whilst getting up, driving to work etc.

TW decided to retire and the BBC in their 'wisdom' employed Evans to take his chair. I think I lasted about half an hour on the first day and then never again. The only place I would like to actually watch CE is in an arena with gladiators...!

I thought it was pretty good actually, and I suspect the 'trying a bit too hard' thing will settle down.  Matt Le Blanc is very funny if you like his dead pan style.

Critics have universally panned it.

I quite enjoyed it to be honest and think it will improve over the season. I certainly missed "the blokes", but the shows format remains the same and some of the humour is still thankfully there - Drag racing on Blackpool beach now has a whole new meaning.

Also looking forward to seeing the return of Clarkson, May and the Hamster.

I didn't mind it either. I thought the hosts were forcing the humour a little, but I expect things to smooth out as time progresses. And there is no natural chemistry between Chris & Matt yet, but hopefully that'll come with time (unless the rumours about their disdain for each other are true).

The first segment at Top Gun was actually quite enjoyable, and I hope we get to see a lot more of Sabine Schmitz. She looks like she could potentially be the funniest out of all the presenters.

The Top Gun segment yes, but admittedly the programme was a little flat in places after that. Sabine? Again yes. I suspect a wicked sense of humour is waiting for us to discover and I found her easier to understand than Matt's american accent.

They have a hard act to follow, but I think it will pacify those who do not like or took "offence" at the previous presenters style and humour. If they can build on what was shown yesterday morning, then it is a win-win for all concerned with just a little more choice about to be introduced through Amazon. Certainly better than all these reality tv shows.

Just got around to watching "Extra Gear".

The hosts of this are way better. And the audience didn't sound like they needed prompting.

Chris Harris should've been the host for the main show. Much more charisma and can talk, joke and drive all at the same time!

Rory Reid is pretty damn good too!

Chris Harris was supposed to be one of the front runners initially. I think he is really good when driving and describing things, a million times better than Evans. But I think he is perhaps a bit young to be the main host, and seems a bit laid back. He wasn't that great at interviewing on the Xtragear show. I think the big failure of the show is that there are only two hosts. You really need three for the banter, and so 2 can gang up on the other one, like they did with James May. You can't do that with a duo. Evans is sort of the James May character, although less likeable. I watched it in full and Le Blanc was actually not bad in the 'challenges'. But he always plays himself, as he acts the same in all his roles. He certainly wouldn't be able to be the main host. Maybe they will add Chris Harris to the show to make a trio. Infact I suspect they will do this. But I think that they could also do with getting rid of Evans and perhaps getting someone similar to Ramsey, as they need that sort of rogue type of character. But the big problem with him is he can't stop swearing.

Wow, I thought Extra Gear was so so so much better than Top Gear. The second guy is a little Odd. I agree some fine tuning on the lead presenter would be required, but certainly nothing like what Chris Evans would need to change to be less annoying! Even the format with the news etc seemed better.

I agree on the 3 presenter thing, you need a tie breaker.

I made a point of watching the Top Gear last night - Wasnt bad.

The hosts have obviously got quite a bit of pressure on them - so considering that -  they did a good job.

I think that once they have a little more mileage under their belts (so to speak) they could be a good team.

I agree that perhaps briging Sabine into the mix a bit more could be a good move - dont know if that will happen.

I quite like Matt LeBlanc - he has a dry understated sense of humour - probably the opposite of JC.

I have to say that I had got sick of the old Top Gear as it had pretty much become the Jeremy Clarkson show (with 2 sidekicks). His opinions were quite random and lacking in any rational logic - but I guess a large chunk of the audience loved him for that. Nothing will please the JC fans except a show with JC - so they will just have to wait for that I guess.

I am not actually comparing (other than the stuff that occurs unconsciously) JC to the new presenters. I am saying I dislike elements of the new show for specific reasons. I also found JC a little annoying toward the end, however, the format mostly worked.

Let's see what the show looks like in a months time.

I mostly watch it for the cars anyways.

Can anyone advise how to stream the first episode in NZ?

I have access to Sky Go but can't find it there and can't see how to stream prime shows otherwise.

I forgot to set Tivo up to record is last week, also where is Top Gear Extra available?

Thanks guys.

And I have FGI'd it.

I watched this last night and just about fell asleep. I thought over the last 2 seasons that Top Gear got a little tired and repeatable with the same jokes but I still enjoyed watching it.

I like Chris Evans as a presenter but thought he just tried too hard. Clearly the BBC didn't want to mess too much with the format, but IMHO the star in a reasonably priced car section seemed a little strange and I'm not sure how you'll get any consistency between different people.

Another Reliant Robin event seemed a little stange considering Top Gear had done the 3 wheel joke numerous times, and it annoyed me watching in Blackpool where they were things clearly weren't filmed in order - one minute the tide was out, and the next minute it was in.

I still don't understand why they had Matt as a presenter. I thought he did OK, but it's clearly to appeal to the US market (where Top Gear has always been), but I just hope it's not going to be the UK vs the US every episode.
