Watched the second episode last night. Found it better than the first one. Will definitely be tuning in again, even though I miss the superior chemistry & humour of the old hosts.

This is just my opinion - I'm sure many will disagree with me, but...

I think Clarkson is an arrogant tw*t (pick your vowel). He sets himself up as being better than the others, always having the last word, always getting the car while May and Hammond have to take trains, boats, balloons... and always having to win, often by bending the rules to breaking point. But Top Gear wasn't about Clarkson any more than it was about cars. I'm sure it was all about cars back in season one, but by the end it was a comedy show that used cars (and caravans) to play for laughs. Learning something about a new high-end vehicle was something that happened while watching them in increasingly ludicrous situations. And it worked because the three hosts clicked. Despite (usually Clarkson) crossing the line on many well-documented occasions, they were funny. I accept that it will take some time for the new hosts to get the chemistry right, but I think the first problem is that Evans just isn't funny. I'm sure he could do well reviewing and test driving cars on a factual show, but Top Gear has not been that show for a long time.

The "New" Top Gear reviews need to be filtered into two piles.

1) Evaluations from JC fanboys - Nothing will ever be good enough to replace him so Top Gear is always doomed as far as they are concerned. These results can go in the bin as nothing any human being or large British Broadcaster can ever do will fix the lack of JC. Build a bridge - watch The Grand Tour when it surfaces.

2) Evaluations from the rest of the viewers.

Don't forget the 3rd (and possibly most influential) pile -

3) The keyboard warriors who hate anything to do with BBC. Regardless of whether they are JC supporters, or not, they will moan about the new show just because it is put together by "Aunty". There are also a few UK media outlets that love to bash and stir up Aunty, just because they can.

Ratings will be the key, based purely on entertainment value at the end of the day. I am keeping an open mind at this stage as I really do want to warm to it. I really do, (or at least until the boys return on Amazon).

Who knows? The Amazon programme may end up flat and tired as well.

I'd expect initially, like most shows, it will take some time for the presenters, however experienced, to get into the groove, and settle. I'd expect some average feedback on that too, but I expect the banter to "carry" them somewhat.

I just think it has become a more expensive version of 5th Gear.

And "Extra Gear" was soooo boring for episode 2, 10 minutes in, I forgot I was watching a recording and went to change channel.

IMO episode 2 was worse then ep 1. The guest stars on the Africa section were just plain boring.

Not sure I can stand Evans any longer either.

I'll watch ep 3 just for the Ferrari then that's it for me.

This from the Mirror... The poll at the bottom is interesting, as are the US numbers...

It's ok, other than Chris Evans. Can't stand him. Maybe he should go take some night classes on public speaking?

Got around to watching ep3... Ken Block and Matt LeBlanc were awesome. I actually laughed at MLB.

The rest was boring.

That I didn't stream it as soon as I could speaks volumes, might even wait until it is on prime and Tivo it to watch later...

Looks like the producers have figured out what we all knew: Chris Evans to take less prominent Top Gear role after audience dives. Rory Reid and Chris Harris from Extra Gear will be taking a lot of the load. Matt Le Blanc is being relegated to the studio as well, which is a shame as I thought he was doing OK.

I'm surprised at myself really.  I haven't seen any of the new episodes, but also don't feel like I'm missing out.  I've seen clips and it was frankly disturbing watching a hyped up freaky little twat running around, and massively staged audience laughter.  In some ways looked reminiscent of the canned laughter of shows like Friends, so maybe that's what Joey is bringing to the show.

Anyhow, can't really comment as haven't seen it, but just interested in how I'm hanging out for the real top gear Grand Journey show when that starts up again.

The BBC has well and truly cooked the Golden Goose.

They allowed TG to become entirely synonymous with Clarkson et al, so so it just does not seem right.

Better for them to have bunged that guy Clarkson smacked a couple of hundred grand to go away - and quietly fired him for failing to have food ready for their expensive talent.

One of the biggest improvements is the way they video shots now, it's MASSIVELY better, The R8 clip had me sitting forward and my heart racing. I SO want to take a hot lap in one now.  The video's make me feel connected to the driving and to the car, much better than what happened before, where your sense of excitement about the car, was tied to how loudly or enthusiastically the presenter waxed lyrical about the vehicle.

Ep3 was better than Ep2 which is better than Ep1. I agree with the upcoming changes, EXCEPT MLB being studio bound. Of the two main presenters I prefer his segment much more.

I am probably strange but I like it, so does my wife. We regard it as a completely new show.
