Evans seems to be pulling his head in and is actually growing on me a bit. I also agree that Sabine is fine in small doses.

The bit of the show I'm not enjoying is the stars in rally cross cars. I don't mind the new track or the actual driving but I find the car comparison and voting horribly contrived, painful, and unnecessary. Also don't really like each star reading out what the other star is up to.

Oh well. Only one episode left in the series and then we will have to wait to see what they have learned from this season.

Agreed it's so obviously rigged the rally car pre driving bit, I don't like it. 1 guest, more in-depth view of the guest etc.

CE is a horrible interviewer, but MLB would be worse. Rory Reid is ok. They need someone like May.

Yeah, it's a bit awkward and painful.  They need to do something better in this segment.  I feel like just having one guest was better and more of an open interview format (like before).

I miss the news! I liked that segment of the old show, I know I get can it in "extra" but still.

I don't see any reasonable candidates for lead presenter in the current presenter list.

I know a guy that would probably be pretty good, but I think he works for Amazon at the moment, so probably isn't available in time.

For what it's worth, I was a casual fan, enjoyed the old show for the chemistry of the presenters, no longer bother watching the new one. Am I the only one?

Apparently Le Blanc wants to leave as not happy with is costar. I think Chris Harris would be a good replacement for the Hamster, very similar styles. Le Blanc is ok but needs someone to pay against, Evans is hopeless for that, they may as well be talking another language. Sabine is always MIA. Rory is too bland, but perhaps more like May than anyone, but you couldn't take the piss out of him, like they do with May. I think May was the best of the old presenters, as he was the person who tied the shows characters together.

I agree re May. Agree with not being able to take the piss out of Rory and not sure how he would cope with the "expeditions" but his trip with the Jag was cool. Not sure about Harris yet, he is a little... something.. I don't think the 3 of them would work. Rowan Atkinson anyone ? :) John Cleese?

I am really over Shouty-McShoutFace, MLB is just bland and boring, I really like Chris Harris as a reviewer, his ability to drive and articulate at the same time is really good but he isn't the one to head the show either. Eddie Jordan is amusing, in small doses but when they give him grief it doesn't flow like JC and RH giving it to JM. Sabrine is good but agree only in small doses.

The show needs a dick, but someone who doesn't have to try to be a dick, like Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsey then a real car geek. Actually they need the 3 stooges back, maybe Top Gear needs to die.

I started watching Top Gear USA recently, (Very) after giving it away in the first season as being excruiting.

I just watched an Epidode which was S08E10 of the three guys in Cuba. If you are a car fan, or a world fan, or a travel fan, or pretty much have even the most passing interest in Cuba, I'd recommend it highly.  I found it very interesting.

Ive not watched the NEW Top Gear. I liked the old one until it stopped being a car show and became a reality show. Like dos "news"shows, it stopped being what is was and needed to sensationalise. I reckon Rowan Atkinson could be good. A comic, funny, but a real car geek

Should I chance a watch at the new Top Gear? 1st show, or a recent one?

Depends, again this show is polarizing, probably in the opposite direction.

There is no single dominating alpha male that overwhelms the flavour.

Rather, random personalities doing random things in seemingly incoherent as a whole entity. Call it randomly missed gears. But there are more substance within the show due to this. Whether it tickles your fancy is another matter. It isn't captivating for me, makes me feel like doing something else so I turn it off until such time I am so bored with nothing else to do. Hopefully the Tivo still retains it at that time. If not, doesn't really bother me.

^^ The proper 'car show' bits, reviews by people who appear to know what they are talking about, are probably as good as previously, but the 'challenges' are just as contrived, but more poorly executed. The 'stars in a rally car' is just plain cringeworthy even when compared to the 'star in a reasonably priced car'. If you want a proper car review show then Top Gear hasn't been it for many years.
Gave it a chance. Won't be bothering next season.

A man's got to take a lot of punishment to write a really funny book. (Ernest Hemingway)

J C's next book will be a lot funnier than C E's.
