Ordered 3x laptops from Dell for work recently, and last Thursday 2 of them turned up - sticker on the boxes said "1 of 3/2of 3" yet no #3. So our office admin calls courier co. on Friday to find out whats going on... "oh, the box was damaged, its on its way".

 

Turns up today.

 

Box has been squashed, and obviously opened (courier co. said to check the contents). Now the fun part of this, is the large and easily seen tyre pattern across the box.

 

Somehow, the courier managed to run over it...... and by some miracle, the laptop survived reasonably unscathed. Nothing obvious to the eye wrong with it, powers on fine and runs. But my eye did catch a little bulge on the base.... feels like something is pushing from the inside (checked the others and they dont have this bulge).

 

Dell are swapping the unit out anyway.

The number of times I've had to tell couriers the parcels go in the van, not under it...

I can totally believe this (and +1 for the Post Haste experiences). 

 

My experience of couriers in New Zealand is pretty aligned with Swift and Shift. You'd almost think it was a documentary...

 

While there is the odd exception, they're mostly just awful. Biggest problem I think is that the customer (i.e. sender) isn't the one affected by poor customer/recipient experience. Bad customer experience therefore isn't punished by taking business elsewhere/competitive tensions. Couriers have no incentive to do things like (oh, just spitballing here...) actually knocking on a door before leaving a "card to call".

 

 

 

I would be *very* happy to pay for a "recipient courier" style service. i.e. parcels get delivered to some central location then a courier I choose actually delivers to me.

 

  • Leave a card to call when I'm actually at home }
  • Run over (or in my case, stand on) a package  }  My business goes elsewhere, thanks.
  • Toss something in the bushes                          }
  • Lose my stuff                                                 }
